The men commonly referred to as the "Founding Fathers" were, during their time, called "fanatics". Sometimes to keep what you have and to do what is right a little "fanaticism" is in order.

I think this goes beyond Nuff' said. I see it as very well said.

Just remember, even with all going on in the world now, our founding fathers were viewed by some even here in our own country as fanatical terrorists.

We want to avoid politics as much as possible, but you have to remember that the "right . . . to keep and bear arms" is a "right", as you said, but the constitution isn't specific as to the type of arms, the manner and locations in which they can be borne, on or off your own property, handguns, rifles, shotguns, or how about bow and arrows, swords, and knives.

As with nearly everything else in the constitution, what it means is whatever the Supreme Court says it means, and that may or may not coincide with your, or my, opinion as to what it means. In fact, not even all members of the court have to agree, and their opinions may change from time to time.

So you can call it a "right" or you can call it a "privilege", but we still have to abide by the laws as passed by our elected officials and "interpreted" by our courts.

I always get this interesting picture in my mind when someone seems to claim that the Founding Fathers had concealed weapons in mind when they wrote the second amendment. Most of the portraits one sees of those gentlemen have them in real tight pants. Imagine a flintlock pistol stuck down those real tight pants. I guess they would have carried them in their coats, but even then they'd be hard to hide, and if hidden they'd be hard to get to quickly....they had lots of snaggy parts to them. Might tend to lose their prime, too, I would guess.

Ah well. Seems to me it's about time Hakim and the boys started a new site. GunsByNet? Wonder if anyone already has that name.

Yea, Reba & Michael Gross were fanatics about their weapons in that they appreciated their capabilities and knew how to use them. My kind of people.

My favorite is Tremors 2, funny movie.

Actually the NRA at one time was not nearly as "fanatical" as they are today. They were the co-sponsors of federal legislation to ban "Saturday Night Specials", very cheaply made firearms that really did not serve a sporting or even very much of a self defense role. When the bill hit congress their co-sponsors got the bill changed to basically ban all handguns which put the NRA in the position of fighting a bill that had their name on it as helping to write it. Since then they have taken the attitude that any negotiation is a sign of weakness and that they must fight all gun control bills or be caught behind the 8 ball again. I tend to agree with their point of view much more than the other side, so I am a member.(and thinking of becoming a Life Member). Besides I really enjoy the magazine.
And no I don't have a CC permit. I have thought seriously about it, but I just have not decided to jump thru the hoops.

BTW; despite her tough movie role, Reba has made several statements promoting gun control and has made appearances for the pro gun control crowd in the past.

I have a permit to carry, but I can't carry it work, so I don't carry. I have joined the NRA twice. When I had some extra money I would sign up. I got tired of them hounding me every other month for money and let my membership slide. JC

Totally agree Bird. It's like saying "potato vs potatoe", as you constitution does not use the word "concealed" when it talks about "right to bear arm".

There was actually a typographical error made when the 2nd Amendment was written. It should have read: "right to bare arms", i.e. the right to wear short-sleeved shirts.
