I also believe that if you are carrying a gun you need to be trained and educated too.
Anyway, interesting discussion about martial arts. I think any idiot who learns mae geri and oi/gyaku tsuki can participate in a street fight - but what matters is what I call a switch. Responsible and decent person does not take lightly things like braking knees and elbows, but in a street fight, that's what may help you win. The switch is the availability to block the culture, education and responsibility for consequences and fight for your life. The martial art techniques are simple and easy and take just a little bit of practice - but to be able to use them to the full extend is the hardest part of it all.
