Who Cooks The Turkey????

We're another cooking duo for Thanksgiving. I deep fry a turkey and grill a fresh ham. The Bride handles the inside preparations. We started a tradition of eating Thanksgiving Dinner at 3:00 pm a few years ago and it's stuck. Not so hurried in the morning, everybody's starving by mid afternoon, and no supper worries /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Got a kick out of the "burned bread" reference. The Bride's an excellent cook, however burning the bread is her meal trademark. I think we've teased her about it so much it's done on purpose /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sounds like some thing my sister in law once did..... cooked the turkey and forgot to remover the giblets from the inside of the turkey.... just put the stuffing in and put into the over..... later she said that she didn't know that they were inside....... and she isn't even a blond!!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's a joint venture for us. The wife and I got up at 3AM to prepare the stuffing and dress out the bird for the oven. Once everything is baking we catch a cat nap until things get a little further along.

The food was great and we had a nice bunch of family and friends join us this Thanksgiving. We are already looking forward to next Thanksgiving.

Everything worked as planned, with a couple of new twists. My son-in-law made a pecan pie to add to the mince and pumpkin, and my grandaughter (age 3) helped my daugther with the fresh cranberry sauce for the first time. My Mother-in-law (age 99) shelled the green beans. I started roasting the big turkey at 9:45, then started heating the oil for the fried turkey at 2 PM, so everything was done at the same time and ready for carving at 3 PM. We usually eat a little later, but we had to be done for the Dolphins game at 4:30; in my family, my wife and daughter are the big football fans! I took a nap. I'll clean up the fryer tomorrow - have to let the oil cool, 'ya know.

Great day, lots to give thanks for. Only 8 people, but 4 generations, spanning almost 100 years!

Don--sounds like you you know how to fry a turkey--that can't be said about everyone. I don't know about the other states, but every year someone manages to burn down the garage when deep frying a turkey.

This year--a man in St. Cloud MN decided to help the wife by taking care of the turkey--via the deep fry method.

The fire didn't get to the house, but the garage looked like a complete loss /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
