The punch matters, too, if you're working with engineered wood or need to use larger nails most of the time. If most of your need is conventional 2x softwoods, most guns have plenty of power. You'll find yourself pounding in the last half-inch with a hammer in laminated beams and rim joists, or heavy ply with southern yellow pine, if you don't pick the right gun, though.
