Which Bush Hog for BX22??

I made the plunge and ordered a BX22 with tiller and Box Scraper. I need a brush hog. What are you all using on the BX22? Thanks again for your wealth of knowledge.

Don't go over 4 ft. A 42" might be better, depending on what you are cutting. The hardest thing to handle is thick, tall grass. I have a 4ft med duty Fred Cain Agricutter hog. Last year I cut about 3 acres of 3-4 ft tall bahia grass and it was slow going. Looking back I was trying to cut too low. I should have made a cut with the hog set higher, then come back. I cut it at about 5 inch setting and just plainly didn't enjoy it! Everthing else I have cut with it has been great and a good match for the size and power of the BX.

I have a 48" HOWSE bushhog. The BX22 handles it fine but it attatches A LOT easier if you move the 3pt hitch pins on the bushhog towards the inside. I have no problem knocking down 2" saplings and blazing some trails in the woods with mine. The only problem I had was that the bolts that attatch the gearbox became loose. I think it was my fault for not tightening them down often enough. If you check my pictures I think there is a picture of my BX22 with the hog on it. Chris

A friend of mine has a BX2200 and a Woods BB48. The Brush Bull is a heavy mower, really too heavy for the BX. Getting the blades moving just about kills the tractor's engine, but once up to rpm it does great. I mowed weeds with it last year that were taller than the ROPS and the tractor didn't bog at all. As for transporting, a lighter mower would be better suited for the BX.

I got the 42" HOWSE bushhog, but haven't used it yet with my BX2200. Dealer delivered the machine with the FEL. MMM, and hog attached. I wanted to just mow, so I took the FEL and Hog off.....it was a royal pain getting the hog off......I'll have to take a gander at the pins on it and perhaps move them inside myself. I plan on using it this weekend (weather permitting) and that might just be the ticket.

I have on order a King Kutter 48" XB model, supposedly made for the subcompacts. Hope for easy hookup and satisfactory performance.

If you are going to be cutting thick and tall stuff. I would go with the 42" Unit. If you are not going to be cutting that tall of stuff or not very thick stuff I would go with a 48". It basically comes down to what you are cutting with it.

I’d go no bigger than a 42” rotary cutter… you only have ~~ 17 PTO hp with an under 60 cid engine with virtually no torque screaming @ 3000 rpm… so you have these limitations you are bounded with…

You may take out a 1” sapling occasionally now and then, but I wouldn’t make it any habit… the Kubota will cry for mercy… so be nice to her and treat her to a 42” cutter and stick with nice grassy and very light woody materials to cut… /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I also have the KK 4' XB series cutter on order. Does anyone have any experience with this cutter?

I plan on using it on my BX1800 to clear a little under an acre of underbrush (brambles, saplings, etc.). Like GFB says, it's supposed to be made specifically for the subcompacts; at least that's what King Kutter told me when I called. Any advice on this model would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
