Which 3 pt hitch woodsplitter?

How do the stand alone splitters generate the necessary tpm flow rate? If they have a self contained hydraulic pump, how come they are less expensive than a separate hydraulic pump for a 3 pt hitch model?

Yep 2 stage vs single stage that takes more power, but is quicker.

I really like the look of that little splitter.. But like all things Northern Tool what does the shipping add to it... I priced a 72" snow blower and the shipping was over $1,000.00.

It's small and won't take up too much room when not in use...

Anyone know the freight on one of these?

I had a home built splitter years ago, my father in law made it out of a trash truck cylinder, hooked to my 40HP Case. It would split a small planet.

Now I use a maul, sledge and wedges. I just turned 70, and need the exercise. Besides, $700 buys a enough beer to power the maul. . .

I've got the little PowerHorse. Shipping was about $100. Box was surprisingly small but very heavy.

Question for you folks who bought the Northern Tool PowerHorse...

Looking at this splitter, I'm trying to figure out how they get the required stroke with such a short box housing the ram. It appears that when the wedge moves towards the end of the box opposite the hitch, the ram must actually come out the end of the box? Or am I missing something? If it does come out, is that a potential problem?

Yes, the ram does come out of the beam. Not a problem unless you are standing behind it. :laughing: I ran the hook up hoses through the routing holes for the in place hoses to make sure the ram won't catch the hoses.
