Where to find year of John Deere 955?

I am trying to locate the model year of my John Deere 955 Tractor. I called JD dealer they said the plate with the serial # would be around the PTO shaft but I can't locate it anywhere. Can someone help?

Your plate is missing, it mounts where you see the two small holes

With no plate you can do other guesswork for a close enough date. Deere usually has a date stamped in the rim of their wheels. You can try that.

Also, there are changes that occur after a S/N break and you can search parts diagrams for changes.

It should also be stamped in the frame on the right front. If that has been ground off also you have a stolen tractor.

No way would I buy a tractor without a bill of sale with the SN on it and all the seller's ID info. Even then I wouldn't touch a machine with any number plates missing or numbers ground off.

Like others said, you are probably going to spend a little time in the pc looking for changes at s/n breaks but here is the chart, available at the JDparts catalog online. Good Luck

I have looked all over the frame and see nothing stamped but there is a number painted of BM22356 on the front guard which probably does not help.

I purchased this from a farmer in 2004 and he gave me a bill of sale, also a service record from a now defunct Fisher Implement here in Oregon but they are now a Pape' Machinery and do not have the records from when it was Fisher Implement so they told me. It has a serial number writtten down as KH3048D023364 on the service invoice.. Could that mean anything? The bill of sale says it starts CH instead of by the seller.

I only found a letter "H" stamped on the rims. Could that help at all?

Like others have said, it's stamped on the right front of the frame. You will have to remove the loader and unbolt & remove the right-front loader bracket to uncover the S/N. The plate's location did move around a bit over the years, some were back by the rear PTO shaft as mentioned and other were on the left rear fender by the seat... kind of above the PTO selector lever. There could be other places too.

The operator's manual I have covers 755, 855, and 955 models from serial numbers 100001-. It states on page 123 that the Identification number is located on the plate below the rear PTO and stamped into the frame at the right front.

My 855 has the number in both locations and begins with LV0855. Looking at the chart above yours should begin with LV0955 or M00955.

A picture being worth a thousand words I took one and drew an arrow to the location of my frame stamped number.

Don't think so. My JD's have the date of manufacture of the rims stamped into the rims. That's date is usually pretty close to the date of the machine. It could also be on the inside of the rim where you can't see it.
