where to buy large steel O or D- rings

I have searched the internet and cannot find O or D rings large enough to make ring chains. I am looking for something around 1/2" to 7/8" diameter wire with an eye of 6" - 8". My intention is to weld cleats or bolts on to the rings and attach them to straight bar chains for a more aggressive logging tire chain. Does anyone know where I could find something like this? Thanks.

I am guessing that the suggested suppliers don't offer the diameter you need. You might try a local steel fab shop - the cost of having them roll them for you might not be to bad - and no shipping either.

I have thought of using 6" pipe and slicing rings off that. You might have to weld flats on the bottom (tire side) to attach chains and to increase the contact area on the rubber, but you would want to weld traction tabs anyway.

If the rings are too much trouble why not make a diamond pattern using quick links?

We take coil springs and slice down vertically with the Plasma to make the rings with. Works well for us.

Thanks...I have thought of the pipe slicing idea too and am still considering it. Come to find out I live about 5 miles as the crow flys from a major manufacturer that made the first tire chains for one of the first Timberjack skidders sold. They do sell the rings, but the cost is much more than what I was anticipating. $15 per ring is too much when a guy needs almost 30 of them, and I would have to weld on the cleats. I have also considered the diamond pattern but I think I'll get better traction in the woods with the rings. Looks like a may need to figure out an easy way to bend rebar into a circle....arg..

Great idea!

Could use the abrasive chop saw and stick weld rings real easy!
Scrap yard and biggest coil spring they can give me!
Also the springs being hardened will last a long time.

Is TBN not the greatest idea site?
