The route is usually battery to large term on starter solenoid, then a lighter wire to a switch (key) then to coil, then out of coil to points and condenser. If I'm seeing corectly you have a wire from coil to points and condenser (Neg.side of coil) so your white wire needs battery power.

Thanks mark. I found the repair manual online - complete with electrical schematic. With my superior reconnaissance I will launch a surprise attack on the wiring. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Yup - I'm a sucker for punishment. Always the optimist. Let's just say that the machine has alot of potential 'cause it ain't getting any worse. The I-beam was straight, piston looked OK. No big leaks (able to run hydraulics while cranking the starter motor). I've got a couple of backup plans in mind if I can't ressurect the motor. Plan B - swap out my leaf blower motor when I want to split wood, Plan C - run off tractor hydraulics, Plan D PTO hydraulic pump, Plan E new motor.

While looking for article on Wisconson eng I saw your post. My Wisconson 2 cyl has run my logsplitter for years. I just love it. Hand crank one or two times and its runing. It does not have to work hard no matter what need to be split.Hope yours worked out .
