I had a small "win" recently. Our last two dogs crossed over the rainbow bridge last year. I held off on getting another by taking the fence down to redo it.

My wife's fish tanks were in storage but after the dogs passed, she wanted to get fish again. A friend works with a rescue and asked her if she wanted a boxer pup? She said that she would sell the fish tanks if we got the dog.

I guess training a pup is a bit of a win?

A buddy of mine bought a purebred something or other. A working dog he calls it. Had to sign a doc that he agreed he couldn't breed it until it has documented proof of training to a certain high level, passes all sorts of dog training tests, and wins so many certain awards.
This year, he accomplished all that... Tons of work.
That dog looks huge, with a matching appetite?

No, they had laid out a plan way earlier than that, and had carefully, subtly been changing you before you said "I do." You were just not discerning enough to realize it, until it was too late.

I've been pretty lucky in my household. I'm probably the one that has the eccentricities in our relationship, dragging my wife on trips, hunting excursions etc. My wife would have remained pretty sheltered, had she not met me. But the reality is the stuff I like to do really hasn't been that frivolous. I'm conservative by nature, except with the quality of things. I subscribe to the buy-once, cry-once philosophy and hate buying junk.

My oldest kid, got into horses. At one point, we had 5. But my daughter was mostly paying for them by training (tune-ups) people's horses and giving riding lessons. She's a natural with horses. Even when we took horses to the vet, the vets always took a liking to my daughter and helped keep her costs low.

I did end up buying a $21K horse trailer and then built about $30K in a barn/stall build out. The stalls were a good investment that I'll get back when I sell our place. The horse trailer is a Sundowner Rancher Sport, 3-horse and was just a great deal and will be a trailer she'll have for years.

I did have to laugh with Eddies dog washing station. With our dogs, I throw a stick in the pond for their wetting/pre-soak, when they return, I lather them with soap. Then I throw the stick again for the rinse cycle. If I'm lucky, the drying cycle is them rolling in the grass and not the dirt.

This stray came in very dirty at the local shelter, got a bath, and was adopted the next day.

It all started when my wife said that she wanted to get a "Show" quality Akita puppy and start going to dog shows. Several years later, and several dogs later, we now have a stainless steel dog bathtub. It was only $2,400 and Amazon is letting her make 6 equal payments without interest.

I admit to doing more then my share of dumb things, like getting horses, getting goats, getting chickens, but getting show dogs was by far the dumbest of the dumb things I ever agreed to!!!

While I love my dogs, and enjoy having them, the level of crazy is impossible to describe. The only thing worse is what those silly ribbons end up costing us.

Here she is in all her glory with our newest puppy. This is in a 12x30 room that I'm building between our house and our garage. It's only going to get worse for me.

It could be much worse, you could have gotten labs like I did. I am in the beginning phase of becoming a breeder for labs with rarer colors. Labs are great dogs but the amount of energy coupled with their intelligence is difficult at times. There are times I wish I had chosen any other breed than the Labs to start breeding.

That reminds me of another money pit. The Akita Pool!!! They will drink out of it, and one of them will walk into it when it's shallow, but none of them are into swimming. Fortunately, I enjoy using it, and when the grandson is here, he loves it.

Emus?! Double Yikes!

In my personal spectrum of human / animal risks, emus are pretty high up there in my book. In Britannica's, too, as it makes a list of the top 6 most dangerous birds, headed by the cassowary. 6 of the World's Most Dangerous Birds | Britannica

We visited an emu ranch many moons ago, and the owners had lots of personal stories, including ER trips. We got to view from horseback which is a touch safer, though the rider needs to have a spook proof riding seat.

I'd scope out the liability coverage costs before getting too deep, but perhaps I'm just cautious.

Got side tracked now since you brought up the maple gold.

My grandsons (Arkansas born and raised) would come stay the weekend.

I would always cook breakfast Sunday morning. Homemade buttermilk pancakes with homemade maple syrup, and bacon or sausage.

My daughter in law cornered me one day She was mad as the dickens at me.

She knew the boys like pancakes so she got up early, made pancakes and bacon for breakfast.

The boys took one bite of the pancakes and said "Ewww!!!! These aren't like Papa's pancakes!!!!".

They refused to eat another bite

She made pancakes from a shake and make mix, and gave them that fake Aunt Jemima crap

So... when we were all on a family vacation, I taught her how to make homemade butter milk pancakes, and sent her home with some syrup

Those boys traumatized her about her cooking
