What's your most favorite 'big box' home store and why?

1. Lowes - though my kids hate it.. told me too many bad childhood memories going with me and taking forever to pick out things.
2. Home Depot
3. Menards - last resort

The other day my daughter who is now 22 said Menard's was here favorite store which is funny because they always used to say "Not another Papa toy store!"

We have a new kid in town here in central NY called "Runnings" they do not carry lumber but they have just about everything else. A combination of Bass Pro, Tractor Supply and Lowes, what is not to like!

Singing on the intercom, "Save Big Money at Menards,"over and over and over again in the store. Drives me nuts, but like the store. Right down the street is a store called Fleet Farm. Between Menards and Fleet Farm I would never have to leave town.

I like Menards but when I'm struggling with a 4x8x3/4 sheet of plywood and two young guys that worked there just walk by me without asking if I needed help, that did it for me. I'm back to Home Depot where they at least ask you if you need help. That 11% savings at Menards isn't worth a bad back.

You can't be shy about asking for help. They probably thought they were unionized :laughing:

Half the time at HD when people ask if they can help, they can't. Sometimes I get lucky and the guy is knowledgeable but that is rare.

I was moving from WI to TN a few years ago and previously to that I got all kinds of T-shirts and caps at Menards for free. That is all I wore, and still do. Anyway I was gathering up broken down boxes from Menards for packing over a 3 morning time span and then every couple weeks for a morning or so when they were stocking shelves.

Two or three times someone who worked as stockboys would come up and ask me where such and such is and I would take them to it. After the second day I started wearing John Deere shirts.
