whats wrong with this ?

Hey there,

I just bought this rig, its a Yanmar 276D, has 2900 hours on it, and I got it for 4700CDN. It runs well, and seems to be holding its own so far. Some have already pointed out that I need to swap the wheels around for easier steering...anyway, here are some pictures

Here is the controls for the FEL, it's a joystick control and doesn't look stock at all.. I'll take more pictures this weekend, everything works and it's impressively strong...it was suggested that I post this here to be deconstructed and analyzed. Please remember that 1) I'm a newb, and 2)I bought it like this

As everyone will tell you, you should not use galvanized water or air fittings in a hyd system.

You should replace everyone of them with hyd fittings.

I agree 100%. Especially with some of those fittings close to your right leg.

SCH 40 blake pipe and sch 40 galvanized pipe is only rated to handle 300PSI WOG. Your tractor probabally runs a system pressure of 2200PSI or so and with a load in the bucket going over bumps and such, you can see shock loads of 4000+. I would hate to have one of those fittings bust right by my leg.

Can anyone ballpark how much it would cost to refit all of this with the proper linkages? Also, please clarify this for me, is it the metal fittings that are the issue? or the hoses? or both?

If the hoses are hydraulic hoses then they are fine. They will typically say on them and give a working pressure as well.

The problem is with some of the metal fittings. They are just galvanized water pipe fittings and not designed to handle the pressure.

Aside form the obvious fittings (see attached) some of the pipe nipples might not be hydraulic rated either and should be replaced.

If you went to a place like TSC, figure anywhere from $2-$5 per fitting. But depending on the condition of the hoses and just how many fittings need replaced, you may consider taking everything to a hydraulic shop and have them make what you need and get rid of the clutter. It looks like when someone did that they didn't have the fight fitting sizes/lengths, and just started throwing things together.
