What's wrong with this tree ? (pic)

I have two maple trees that both have this same deformation on the leaves. Anyone know what it is ? (see pic)

Closer view. At first I thought these were bugs or eggs, but they actually seem to be malformed leaves.

Thanks, Egon and Bird, both links describe the problem as 'bladder gall.' I did a lot of searching on my for 'maple problems' and didn't find anything that described the problem or had pics. Seems its an unsightly problem, but does'nt harm the tree. Thanks again

Our maple tree at our old house use to do that every year. I never thought much about it as it seem to go away after a while and the tree continued to grow more and more every year.
