What's wrong with Canadians?

The original founder of the Weather Channel had a great concept. I’m talking like 30 years ago. He sold it and it became an advertising gold mine. I have seen him interviewed on TV. Seems like a good man rooted in meteorology
Yeah, but the concept of a 24 hour, very repetitive, weather channel would be very boring...guess they had to spice it up. I watched it occasionally years ago before it got overly "dramatic".

Watch the video of him I posted above. It’s a real Donnybrook (with no fists)

The “series of storms” we have always gotten on the west coast is now officially called an “atmospheric river”. Surprisingly, they are now pulling up stats showing there are more atmospheric rivers than in previous years (when they didn’t exist).
I’m not a climate change denier but I am sick of the drama.

As with most things in life, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Dave Schultz, Dave Brown, etc. boys liked to brawl

The guy for the Islanders is my sister's nephew.

I blame most of this on The Weather Channel...
They're the ones who started (stupidly, IMHO) naming snow events and sensationalizing the forecasts...all in the name of ratings.
Pretty sure, but not positive, TWC also started this foolishness about "real feel" which is utter BS.
The wind chill...I can understand that, but "real feel" is complete subjectivity (i.e. a WAG)

They are obviously haven't had an argument over the heat or ac with their spouse

Do our friends in the US have the same problem?

Lately our news media has embraced "what it feels like" temperatures instead of reporting the "thermometer temperature"

Today's high is being reported as "we will see our high at what feels like -25oC" instead of "our high today is -11oC with a light breeze"

In winter the media are reporting a fake "what it feels like" calculated number vs the actual temperature based on the wind speed. The higher the wind speed, the colder "it feels".

In summer they ignore wind speed and report the "humidex temperature" which is a calculated number to make the temperature "feel warmer". So if it's 21oC (aka room temperature) they will report a humidex temperature that "it feels 30oC". But if you waved your arms the wind chill would make it "feel like" +15oC.

I think they should start reporting what it feels like to include other special interest groups.

"Today's high is -11oC. It feels like -25oC with the wind chill to many people. If you are over 80 then today's temperature feels like -50oC. If you are in menopause then today could feel like -30oC or +30oC indoors."
Why do you even watch that crap Mike? Just get a weather station and be done with the Media. Thats what I did.

Weather Underground app on the phone. Three personal stations in a half mile radius are tied into it. So, I didn’t even set my station up.

Weather Underground, has a smart model which adapts the real time data of all the linked stations into its forecasts to improve the accuracy. It looks at what the forecast for that location was, and then compares it to the real time data. It then uses that information to modify future forecasts for that site.

It gives me a good forecast for my place, based on three or four years of data from the three stations around me.

The only thing I don’t like about it, is that you can look at its forecast data for nearly anywhere, and you can get the forecast for one of those private stations tied to their network. But it won’t give you data and forecast for stations run by the National Weather Service. Inconvenient for me because I do a lot of work at Forest Service Ranger Stations, which are generally where the Remote Automated Weather Stations are located.
