The cap on this old metal jerry gas can has a rubber hose coming off it. What is that supposed to do?
Any ideas? Thanks! IMG_4072.JPGIMG_4074.JPG

With the valve I would say it would be pressurized and it would empty thru other fitting

Portable gas tank for test-running carbureted engines? Pressurize to a few pounds for pressure feed without needing a fuel pump.

Maybe to feed an oil stove or heater?

Is it rigged up for an outboard Motor? Just a guess.

That was my guess too...some also used a inline primer bulb to get fuel up and flowing.

The jerry can adapter for the gasoline military tent heater looked just like that. the heater has a quick connector on it that connected to that fitting and the tank was set in a cradle to hold it upside down for use. Only seen one used once back in the middle 80's That was the night that the battalion commander's tent burnt to the ground. We were never allowed to use them again.
