I agree that gravity feed through a garden hose is just too darn slow. Radman's 1.5" inch hose is one solution. Another is a PTO driven roller pump with pick up in your barrel. I have one set up like that, and pulling the trigger on a normal garden hose sprayer is just like watering from the outside faucet -- maybe even a little better if you crank the RPM's up a little.

I like the idea of using a pto driven pump for a 55 gal drum. Where can I buy a roller pump? Also what other parts do I need besides a hose, pressure gauge and carry-all?

I use a tow behind 300 gallon field sprayer. Removed the booms, set it up for a garden hose. Powered by Pto pump. Works great.

I also have a 15 gal unit I bought at TSC, powered by 12 volt on demand pump, has a nice hose length and trigger lever. I have this mounted on the rear of my Hustler 340 mower. I use this for spraying grass/weed killer around stuff I'm too lazy to trim around after mowing.

Check TSC website. Many units available. Or, your local paper for a farm auction for a tow behind field sprayer.

I think he's talking about an IBC Tote.

Let's see if this picture works:

Here are some Ebay sources. I think there are cheaper local sources.

Pictures on my watering set-up for the garden. With the weight of one 330 gallon tank at around 2600 lbs, I have a steep hill to pull up the Bota earns its keep. Next year I plan to lay plastic pipe and pump up with a Pacer 3.5 hp pump. Funny how river water encourages growth spurts (farm fertilizer run-off. Once I started watering, everything seemed to jump-even the weeds.

for those on a budget. I have a rental house with one of the neighbors being on social security. He has a bunch of plastic 55 gallon drums at his house. He has rain runoff from the gutter fill them all year. He then uses this water to water his garden during the summer. His garden is downhill from the house so bacically once he paid for the cost of the plastic barrels he gets free water for his garden every year.

I prefer to keep it simple. A couple old plastic garbage cans (40 gallons?) with a 1/4" hole drilled near the bottom. Fill it up with a bolt threaded into the hole, haul it to the tree with the carry-all, and pull out the bolt. It takes about 30 minutes or so to drain, while I work elsewhere. The flow is slow enough that it doesn't cause much runoff (trees are on a slope).

Red These totes are found in alot of places look fo any one in the comercial soap businness or where alot of water soluable glue is used. Most places have a free return policy with them but what happens is they get un economical to haul back the the be refilled. Mine come from a fiberglass plant that use them for gelcoat. I get a few gallons of hardener from them when i take a few totes then I harden the gell in the tanks and with a little work have a clean tank.
