Chinook Pass is close to Mt. Rainier, and only about 20 miles from Paradise, which holds the world record for annual snowfall-somewhere around 70 feet. Typically the pass is closed from November to March or April. Having that much snow up there is not unusual, it's just unusual to have it this late in the year. They do use the huge snowblowers up there, and they are working their way up to the top, making about 1/4 to 1/2 mile a day. It's the only place around that you can take your kids to have a snowball fight in August! /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif
