What\'s missing in this picture??

This is a picture from behind my tractor, looking forward at the back end of the right rear fender. The middle of the picture shows a hole in the fender with a plastic plug in it. On either side of the hole is screw hole. To the front is the flasher light and to the left is the rear work light.

Does anyone know what this mounting site is intended for? I don't have a clue, but my curiosity has been growing.

Re: What\'s missing in this picture??

This is where your trailering plug connection would be mounted if you were in Europe. On U.S. tractors, the hole is left empty from the factory.

Re: What\'s missing in this picture??

It does kinda look like a trailer plug would fit there. Thanks for answering my question.

Re: What\'s missing in this picture??

Where ya plug in for the trailer lights... In Europe Tractors are required to have lighting packages just like cars. Brake, signal, etc.

Re: What\'s missing in this picture??

cipi,

My intent is not to mislead. I am not sure what a "trailering plug" is. But, what I envisioned was an electrical pin type connector (like what connects electricals from my pick-up to my trailer) sized to fit the hole in my tractor fender, secured in place by screws in the holes that flank the main hole. Used, perhaps, for trailer lighting. Maybe a requirement in Europe....I'm just guessing.

Thanks Scott,

You posted 1 minute before I did. For me it was a lucky guess!

Re: What\'s missing in this picture??

I'm guessing the reason is, since no one pays any attention to the lights on cars, why put em on tractors? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I bet your pic (or mr. hollows pic anyhow) is fairly close. I believe they have to have lights on the farm traliers too. I think it's pretty common to haul the crop to the mill with the tractor since distances are not as far over there.

Here's a shot of a goodly sized <A target="_blank" HREF=http://pictures.valtra.com/KUVAT/3265.jpg>Valtra Hi Tech</A> with some lights. Valtras are made in Finland so it should be fairly representative.

Here's their new <A target="_blank" HREF=http://pictures.valtra.com/KUVAT/3894.jpg>T series</A>

<A target="_blank" HREF=http://pictures.valtra.com/KUVAT/3066.jpg>X series</A>

I got a little carried away... you get the idea...

Re: What\'s missing in this picture??

There must be lighting regs hitting the US tractors as well. I'm seeing more and more ag implements with lights lately /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: What\'s missing in this picture??

Makes sense to my thinking... Somthing large and slow on the roads needs special attention. Combine that with the fact that suburbia is creeping into rural areas and suburban drivers aren't accustomed to farm machinery. Then again, some folks would drive into a day glow orange tractor that had flashing strobes and escort vehicles...
