Oil & Fuel Whats it sound like when you run out of diesel?

Sounds similar to when you suck the water out of teh bottom of your tank. AWFUL!

I let mine get low cause I'm waiting for some filters to show up for the bulk fuel tank! 1000 litres (250 gal) of diesel in there only a couple months old but full of rust particles.

I want to filter it then let it sit.

Strang but I never experienced any of the noise that the other members are describing when I ran out.

I was finish mowing and the power simply dropped off until the engine wouldn't support the mower or itself for that matter.

I actually didn't run the tank dry but rather a screen up inside the fuel tank plugged with crud so zero fuel could get through it. It was easy to find once I pulled the fuel line loose.

But it still isn't a good idea to let a diesel run out of fuel because you forget to fill the tank IMO.

I have to agree with PineRidge.... As much I hate to admit it, I would run my B6000 out of fuel at least twice a year. It would never sound strange other than lose of power then just die.

Of course this would only happen at the back end of the field. I would have to walk back and drag up the 5 gallon can of fuel(of course it would be full!) and the tools to bleed the air out of the system.

Now that I have a fuel gauge you wana bet I still do it... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Hope your problem is just lack of fuel. Good luck,

Gary

Until last year, I could honestly say that I'd never run out of fuel on a tractor, truck or car. I had to have the fuel tank replaced on my B2400 and the calibration on the sender unit on the new one was a little different from that on the old one. On the old one, when you hit "E" there was probably about 1/2 gallon left. On the new one, when it hits "E", it is empty, bone dry, through for the day and it does sound like a sick puppy when it happens. It rattled, banged, coughed and spluttered until it died. When I finally hauled the fuel can out there to the far end of the pasture and refilled it, it didn't take much to get it running again. It ran rough for a few seconds but then settled down to its old sweet sounding self and didn't seem to do it any harm.

Boy I sure can't say that. Way back when gas was cheap (35 cents a gallon) I had inherited the family station wagon. 62 Ford with a 390 in it. I ran out of gas a few times with it. The one time I remember in particular I was less than 1/2 a block from a station. The 3 other dudes with me helped me push it into the station. We pooled our cash and came up with 55 cents. bought 1 1/2 gallons of gas and we were off again.
Ha, the good ole days. ....sorry for OT ...just felt like sharing.

I have to admit first had experience morre than once. All in Vietnam. It was along way between gas pumps.

There is typically a sump in the bottom of the fuel tank below the pickup for the engine. This sump fills with water and mud since those things are heavier than diesel. There is typically a drain petcock at the lowpoint of the tank to drain off this crud every so often.

So do these Kubotas self prime and run or do you need to go through an air bleeding procedure?

Seems my fuel tank is not typical. It has a flat bottom with the fuel supply takeoff dead center. There is also the lack of a draincock? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Have I been had? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'm sorry, maybe not typical for Kubota but typical of diesel machinery I've dealt with. Perhaps I've mispoken, but it seems like all tanks should be this way.

Agreed - all tanks should be that way. Tank on my truck isn't. It's got a nice flat bottom with an outlet on the top for the pump.
