I am interested in buying a subcompact or compact tractor. However the dealers that I have talked to cannot explain two question. (1) Why is the BX2230 at 22HP run at 3200 RPM and the B7800 at the same HP run only at 2600 RPM? and (2) How can you measure the torque of a motor so a person can compare HP to HP?

I think you'll find they have to rev that BX2230, 3 cylinder, a little higher to get the same horsepower as the larger displacement 4 cylinder engine in the B7800.

I looked at both tractors and went with the B7500. I wanted a little more of a tractor and for the additional $3000 I believe I did. No compaints yet, it has done everything and more I asked of it. Have fun looking. I did.

"How can you measure the torque of a motor so a person can compare HP to HP? "

That's a good question!! Torque is a much more valuable measure of an engine's power then Horsepower. Unfortunately, HP is the more advertised rating...gross HP at that (which isn't really much use).
However, if you delve into the tractor specifications (on web sites or brochures), you can normally find the torque at a given RPM. Better the maximum torque developed at lower RPM, by the way. You'll have more usable power. That applies to cars, trucks and tractors.

The B-7510 is about the same horsepower and does have a little larger displacement. The extra displacement helps the B-7510 engine develop it's horsepower at a lower rpm. You could very well liven up the pump on the B-7510 and wind up with 27 horsepower at 3200 rpm like the BX at 22. Is it a bad thing? Only if the engine was not built with materials and machine work to withstand the higher rpm. Just think we have cars coming out of the factory that turn close to ten thousand rpm! Chain saws running at twelve thousand rpm all day long! I would be more concerned with the job that needs to be done. It seems there is some question as to how much equipment is needed.

As for your subject line...I would have to say depends on your needs...size of property and so on.

For me, the I think my B2910 [B7800 with more frills] is a better dollar value than my BX2200. ONLY because you get more tractor per dollar, at least from what I can see... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Both are nice tractors...both should last you a long time...if I were only permitted to have one of them, I would have to say good bye to the bx2200...but that is just me... I use mine on a little less than 4 acres...
