This is comming up at a local farm Auction.

BIL bought a couple like that and although they were sealed the diesel was crap. Looked like it had been sitting around for years. I think it has ended up as weed control because I don't think it would even burn. Be careful.

I'd have to check our mechanics shop and see what the disposal fee is for diesel fuel....Then I'll tell you how much I'd charge to haul it away.

Diesel stored in barrels will collect condensation, and diesel will form alge if aged long enough. I wouldn't touch it with a TWENTY foot pole for use in a tractor without full knowledge of it's age and how it was stored. If you've ever had a fuel system (on a tractor) get contaminated with dirt/alge/water/ect, you'll be very hesitant to use fuel with an unknown history. Fuel filters don't catch it all.

If you happen to have a shop heater that can burn diesel, it would PROBABLY be OK for that. (I've burned garbage diesel in mine with no ill effects)

You can check for algea by sweeping your finger around inside the fill hole under the lid. If there is algea in the fuel your finger will get a black coating on it. If it was stored inside and looks nice and clean and the barrel is clean inside I woundn't be afraid to buy it. You can always filter it by adding inline sediment and water filters to the pump if you are concerned. My guess is that it will probably go for something like $200 plus, depending on who is at the auction.
