What would be the ideal B2910 setup?

Actually, I think the 2910 and 402 FEL is rated at 960 lbs

I took the load amounts from Kubota's site.

Lift Capacity at Full Height at Bucket Pivot Pin 1060 lbs (481 kg)

Lift Capacity at Full Height (Bucket Center) 760 lbs (400 kg) Used the same comparison for both tractors.

I thought the load capacity was 960 also. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Well that's interesting. I'll have to dig up my old brochure and see if they've changed something. I don't think the difference was that much when I was shopping. I mean, the 3130 has twice the FEL capacity of the 2910 and only costs $1500 more!? Of course at the time, I was comparing the 3010, so maybe the FEL of the 3130 is different somehow.

But if those facts are correct, and it sure looks like they are, the 3130 would have to get the nod for anyone serious about FEL work.

Something is messed up with Kubota's numbers. 400 kg is 880 lbs. but they do show 760 lbs. Of course, I have no idea which number is right. Making this post of little help but hey, at least I remembered some math. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Poppa,

Kubota numbers their loaders based upon the lifting capacity in kilograms, so about 400 kgs is correct for the LA402 loader. This is about 880 pounds.

The new L3130 outspecs the B2910 by a much greater margin than the slight difference in price suggests. Seeing one next to a B2910 makes the B2910 look like a toy. If the L3130 is not too large or heavy for your uses, you get a whole lot more bang for your buck with it. I still love my B2910, but the L3130 is tempting. Of course, I don't think an L series would fit on my 2/3 acre as comfortably as my B2910. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now Henro, on the other hand, ought to be in the negotiation stage for an L3130 right about this time. Spring seems to be his tractor buying season. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thank you to everyone that has replied on this forum. All of you all have been very helpful.

Well, I paid a visit to the Kubota dealer today.

I test drove the B7800, B2910 and the Grand L3130.

The B7800 and the L3130 had loaders attached. All of them are terrific machines. The L3130 is a much bigger machine ~3300# vs ~1700 for the B2910.

I believe that the L3130 makes most sense for me.

Frank f15, I liked your comment and I paraphase, "Figure out what you going to do 90% of the time...then buy the tractor that will do that activity".

Excellent advise! It helped me alot.

Therefore, it seems that I will go with the L3130.

Here's what Im thinking right now.

Grand L3130 tractor
fixed ROPs
non-filled R4 tires,
no mid-pto
no rear remotes or TNT
FEL, 513, 66" HD round back bucket, w/ toothbar, Quick Hitch
Woods GB72 Heavy Duty box blade
Post hole digger, ???
Rear Finish Mower, 72" First Choice or maybe Bush Hog

Well, that's probably gonna be the setup for me.
I talked at length about the LA723 loader and decided against it. Mostly because the LA513 seems a better fit for me and seemed to fit the tractor very well, too.

Any comments before I take the plunge?

Thanks again to everyone!

Rick,

Mabye we should both reconsider... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Especially seeing that Theowegian is about to prove that the ideal B2910 setup is an L3130. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

But we already knew that, didn't we... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Rick and Henro: I agree that bigger (and especially heavier) is better in all ways but one; any heavier than the B2910/7800 and it presents a much bigger problem trailering.

You not only have to get a trailer with 10K# gross if you want to trailer a 3130 and up tractor, FEL, BH and ANY other significant attachments; that in turn means that you need a larger truck to tow it.... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif ....and my wife (whose opinions, she thinks, are or ought to be "law" /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) thinks that the Suburban is already too big a truck. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

If the MegaBeast were gonna be a stay-at-home I probably would have gotten an L series, but w/out taking it out to the 30 acres in the Berkshires, I can't really justify even the B7800 for my 1 (going on 3) acres near Boston. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Kind of an ironic twist; in order to need it bigger, I need to be able to trailer it; and in order to trailer it, I have to keep it smaller. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It won't be easy, but I guess I'm gonna have to try to be content w/what I've got. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Actually, it's my first real tractor and I'm as happy "as a pig in **** with it. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif (Not that I'd mind if it was bigger......) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

MadDog,

Awww, MadDog, you missed our point. The way Henro and I think, you should never have to trailer your tractor. You just simply buy a tractor for whatever piece of property you need one at. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

See, I only have one piece of property, but I have two tractors...well...if lawn tractors count. Henro, I think he only has one property, and he has 2 (real) tractors. Our problem isn't too many tractors, we just need more properties. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now, what we advise (I'm speaking for Henro here) is that you keep the B series for your small property and buy an L for your larger property. Simple. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Seriously, though, you do raise a valid point. If you need to trailer it, then a lighter tractor can keep the towing requirements a bit simpler.

Obviously, Rick the irony transcends my own situation....too many properties and two few tractors vs., for you and Henro, to many tractors and too few properties /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Of course, I suppose we have to take into account that although I ONLY have one tractor, I also have a trailer. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

BTW, I play with it, too, every chance I get, if not hauling the tractor, hauling loades of wood and other building materials for whatever project I've got goin' at the moment. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

....in a Communist country, the d*mn government would probably impose some sort of trade in the name of "fairness"

....fortunately, living here, Washington will probably let us work it out ourselves. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Frankly, I'm apprehensive about even THINKING about a second tractor, in case SWMBO (she thinks) has telepathic powers. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif ; --there'd be a yip (or maybe yelp) that Bill would be able to hear clear over in Phg!!

Maddog makes an excellent point about portability and that was a consideration when I bought my 2910. It is just about perfect on a 7k pound trailer behind my half ton. My dad, on the other hand, bought a New Holland TC 40D after incrementing up from looking at a TC 29D and now has to get a tow vehicle and a trailer to transport it to his property. That bigger tractor can get expensive in a hurry.

Of course, if you can't trailer it, you won't be tempted to go help friends out whenever they ask. But then that may mean less seat time . . . and . . . Well, thinking about this stuff is pointless. Just go buy what you like. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
