And DON'T leave your child in the presence of your Rotty, Bad things may happen. Check the recent news for details!
The only difference between a rotty and a Chihuahua is the physical size of the animal and what kind of damge it can do to a child. You shouldn't leave ANY dog alone in the presence of a small child.

Too many rescue dogs are "pre-ruined". If you just want a basket case animated object of your affection, Rescue dogs are fine.

Otherwise, it's a crap shoot.

Check out how many animals are euthanized every day in all of our major cities.

Life is too short to salvage a basket case canine.
Out of 55 dogs that have come through our home, we only had to euthanize one because we felt that the dog was to dangerous to adpot out. That said, all of the dogs in our care never spent time at the animal shelter because back then, our county didn't even really have an animal shelter to adpot out as pets.

I can honestly say in the truth as I know it, I thought the 54 dogs that we had worked with were great dogs. Yes, each had some issues that may have needed to be corrected that we found over time living with us, but from what we've heard from their adpotive families, they all made great household pets.

Personally I have found most dogs where you don't know their past history more resilant than people given what they may have endured if you don't know their past, added dogs don't have the ability to tell you what and why what "issues" they may have because they can't talk.

The bigger question is why are there so many unwanted "pets" per dogs to begin with? The answer is simple, because of man.

How many animals are euthanized every day in all of our major cities? In our small BFE county in rural NC, we had half the towns largest population in the county euthanized every year per dogs and cats. Point being, you don't have to go to major urban areas to find unwanted pets.

With all due respect, anything in life can be a crap shoot even working with "unwanted" children. I've just found working with dogs easier than working with people LMAO

The biggest nut case dog we have EVER had is now our pet. Totally my fault. Came from a man who I could not respect who was once my neighbor, and who owned that dog for more than a couple of years. I was friends with the guys owner of the former company he worked for, and if it tells you anything about the man, the owner of his former company was his family, and he (the owner) had to get rid of him due to some pretty good reasons IMO because that owner didn't make friends with some of his family doing it. Point being, the man made the dog a nut case IMO in the way he treated it.

Confusing dogs with humans is on you.

Yumm Yumm Puppy fried rice!

It's Real! get over your self. If you were hungry, Your dog would be fair game.!

Dogs, left to themselves, don't need dentistry. They don't live long enough. But with the "love and care" humans offer, canine dentistry is a big business. Yumm Yumm canned dog food! Rot those teeth!

IDIOTS! They are every where.

Some people should not pass on their genes.

Since my wife and I retired, we have only adopted older dogs, to great success. We're experienced at re-homing, so know that it takes a dog months to really settle in. A couple years ago we adopted a 5 year old springer that turned out to be the best field springer I have ever met in my life. I have worked behind a hunting party with two GSPs that was not getting any shots. 200 yards behind them, my springer kicked up a limit for me in an hour. She works close, has a great nose, dives into the brush, is low enough to run the game trails, and has never missed a retrieve.

Yes, she has some warts. Her original owner died, and she went through a couple years of neglect and abuse before she was turned over to ESRA. She does not like strangers, and is very aggressive toward them at home in her territory. In the field, she does not react, and can visit other properties without reacting. The down side is that she has to be restrained if a stranger shows up. The up side is that she is the first line of defense against an intruder. A thief is apt to get an unpleasant surprise.

It also took a while to teach her our property boundaries. When we first got her, she would run off for hours, which is very dangerous. It's a livestock area, and a dog in a pasture is asking to get shot. It took months of training to get her to respect fence lines.

She's a wonderful house pet; soft, affectionate, quiet and clean, does not destroy furniture, etc.

^^^ my next dogs will be older as well. I have never adopted a puppy, I usually adopt a 2-3 years old. But going forward I am thinking mellow dogs that still alert and want to lay in the yard during the day and are able to hold it at night until morning.

This is just plain mean and cruel. It is unnecessary.

Thanks for mentioning that adoption consideration. (y) Senior citizens should adopt only dogs they will outlive in order to avoid the back-to-shelter trauma to the dog. Three years ago we adopted a 7 year old Lab. He is now 10 and approaching end-of-life but he had a great 3 years! 🐕‍🦺

We have adopted dogs from rescues and the local pound successfully. The wifey has worked for rescues as well and we have not seen any issues with dog rescue groups.

There is a local "rescue" of non dogs where the owner makes volunteers sign a NDA(Non Disclosure Agreement) which I find questionable and interesting...
