What type of oil for finish mower gearbox?

Newbie question - what type of oil do I need to put in a king kutter rfm? I just bought a 5' used mower from my neighbor and I'm not sure what I need to use to top it off and make sure it is ok before I use the mower.

Gear oil you can pick up at W*M or any auto parts store. The manufacturer may have a specific recommendation, but I use 80W90.

Just for the heck of it.. check the manual.. however.. I wouldn't be afraid of anything like 80w90, 90wt, or 85/140.

You do realize that you can download the manual in PDF format from KK for free.

( FWIW.. my KK mower manual states to use SAE 80w90 or 85/140 gearbox lube.. and grade II tube grease for the grease fittings.. )

I suppose if you wanted to get all fancy you could go with synthetic gear lube---Napa has some Valvoline and Mobil 1, probably one quart would be more than enough
