After watching 'Life of Riley' it sort of shocked me to see him in an older movie...'The Hairy Ape'...!

William Bendix was a good actor. I just read this: "Bendix died in Los Angeles at age 58 in 1964 as the result of a chronic stomach ailment that brought on malnutrition and ultimately lobar pneumonia."
