What the heck makes a low pitched ugly growl in the night?

Reminds me of when my parents got a weasel in the house once. At the time they lived about 20 mikes from Springfield Illinois. I didn’t know we had them around here. The thing went nuts I wasn’t home at the time but when I visited you could see footprints from it 6 feet up the walls. They finally got it out a patio door.
My parents wanted me to check their house in country while they were on vacation. I go by one dark midnight. First thing I got sprayed by a skunk as I was unlocking door.
Two hours and six baths later I'm awakened by glass breaking, things thrown around about 6am. I sneak out back door, run over to grandparents house on farm. Call sheriff, go back with a gun. Sheriff arrives, I'm behind a tree holding Grandad's 12ga. in my underwear. Sheriff goes in, gun drawn, comes out "here's your problem". Dad had left one fireplace damper open, a squirell got through running all over leaving soot footprints and broken things everywhere.

Did whatever it is get Cali?
Still kicking!

Mr Badger never came back after that time I turned on the porch light and flung up the windowshade.

Do badgers eat mice? I think that's the minor scuffle I heard out there a few times. I haven't seen any mice at the tabletop bird feeder since that night.

More recently, down in the ravine there was a racket of what sounded like a dozen coyotes howling, a dog screaming as he was getting eaten alive, more dogs there frightened and barking, and every other dog for a mile around howling and barking. I don't want to know .....

^^ Seems like they'll eat just about anything .....

"Badgers are carnivores and are well-adapted to preying on burrowing rodents, including ground squirrels, but they will also prey on other non-burrowing mammals. Please report your badger sightings to DFW."

Badger

"Diet: Badgers are carnivorous (meat eater). They eat a variety of small animals, including pocket gophers, ground squirrels, moles, marmots, prairie dogs, woodrats, kangaroo rats, deer mice, and voles. They also eat insects and birds. Behavior: Badgers are solitary animals who are mainly active at night."

Most nights I go outside, I hear a pack of coyotes doing their thing off in the distance, I am not sure if their carryin ons just carry far distances or there are bunches of packs in my neck of the woods

Well look who I saw today!

P1930243rBobcat2.jpg

Enlarged out of a 20x zoom, actually 60 yards down an orchard row. Unconcerned that I saw him. He just wandered off. Last time I saw the Bobcat was 3-4 years ago.
