The referee situation in the NFL definitely needs to be addressed.
If it were up to me, they would have at least double the number of crews needed. 2 go to each game and the random selection of which crew happens minutes before kickoff.
There should exist a pool of referees, similar to a practice squad. These would be called up to replace refs who are suspended.
Referees get paid more money, but also risk fines for egregious or repeated errors. Continued bad calls may result in suspension and/or removal from the league.
Poorly rated crews don't work on bye weeks (so get no pay).
Top rated crews work the "booth" and make all decisions on coach's or automatic challenges.

No I don't think the Saints are going to the playoffs this year but how could they with officials making bad calls like this against them. They got a penalty when the refs called a roughing the passer call on Granderson on what looked to me to be one of the cleanest hits on a quarterback this year. Can anyone tell me why this call was made. Check out the video if it is still working:

Anyone see Eagles Broncos? Eagles had a final shot with 21 seconds left when TE Dallas Goedert was obviously, grossly mauled by a Denver player and nothing was called. Ref was 10’ away and no call

I know the feeling. I posted a video here sometime ago that I thought was really funny, but it was pointed out to me by many why is was actually staged. You'd think people would have better things to do.

Luckily didn't see it where I'm at.
I did get to see Penn State play, which I really wasn't going to watch because I thought it was going to be a blowout.
More important things in life than football, but it's a bummer of a weekend when both the lions and eagles lose on the same weekend here in NC on my end.
I know if my dad were still alive living with us, I wouldn't hear the end of it for at least Monday LOL
Never really impressed with Franklin on his scapegoats after the season, but I really don't see PSU eating 50 million to let him go. Could be worse, could be a Longhorns fan I guess.

The sooner PSU eats the excrement sandwich and let’s go of James Franklin the better. He’s now lost 17 of 18 games versus top 10 opponents.
The talent on his team is much better than he is.

Funny you mention the Bills and the Eagles.
The Bills cried and whined at the NFL meetings to make the Eagles “tush push” illegal.
But now that the Bills have been able to execute it at a success rate second only to the Eagles success rate, they suddenly don’t want to eliminate it.

My son played against directly against 2 different current NFL players. Like helmet to helmet.
One was TE Kyle Pitts. I can’t remember the other one, but it was a NFL tackle.
My son was a Defensive end and a fullback/tight end.

That makes sense. Y'all are in a much bigger area. The total population of our state was only about 600k back then!
My only other remote connection is that Adam Vinatieri and I had the same HS head coach.
My oldest played flag football against Mark Chmura's kids when they were about 5. He was just another dad standing around watching...except he was huge. Nice guy, though.

Maybe you need glasses….I watched it in super slow motion, it looked like no flag to me! ( just my opinion)
That was blatant PI if there ever was.
Meanwhile refs had no problem throwing numerous weak flags against the Eagles.
The eagles played a horrific 4th quarter, and I don’t usually lay blame with refs, but they definitely helped the Eagles lose that game.

Not a big NFL fan, and watch less college then I used too, but... When I played football in HS, Equal opportunity for the ball. No, can't hold, can't tackle the receiver prior to him making contact with ball, but absolutely the defensive back had the ability to make a play on the ball. Some of this minor head to head ejection stuff, ect. Heck, QB has pads and a helmet and plays on the field, and 100% as a defender, if given a legit opportunity on the QB you wanted to knock him out of the game (no they didn't teach to try to Injure, but you hit that SOB as hard as you could, and make him think before he tried another run). I understand the reasons for the rule changes, but I also think 95% of the changes favor the offense, because NFL wants high scoring shoot outs, not proper football... All just my opinion, and worth what you paid for it

It's kind of rare that I'm able to watch both Penn State and the Eagles play in the same week (I'm in NC but I have a "free" New England TV channels).
It may not be rare for the birds and lions to loose the same week, but I don't know if I can ever remember them both losing on back to back weekends when I could actually watch them play on TV.
The Lions I can understand losing the big ones, but UCLA and Northwestern and it's bottoms out. The eagles really have never looked overly impressive this year, and the their offense really seems out of sink and not clicking, and their defense is definitely not what it looks like last year.

Lets face it, he didn't really have a good environment in North Carolina in the NFL, but he does seem to have turned Nebraska around. That said, didn't care for the guy for bailing on Baylor coming to the pro's.
