Hi all,

We're working on a pasture. The corners are going to have treated wood posts and support bracing. I'm going to use staples for the diagonal wire tension supports, and for the 5 rows of 12.5g barbed wire. At my local farm supply store the staples come in 1.25", 1.5", 1.75", 2", and 2.5". That's a crazy amount of choices. All are double barbed. Any logic here for what size to use? The smallest would seem fine to me but I have no experience.

Thanks

If they're too short you'll be beating you meat/fingers. I like the 1-3/4". I was thinking they were 9ga.

The width of the crown is based on what is being fastened...if it's barbed wire the smallest is fine...for the shanks...the softer the wood (posts) the longer they need to be...

Long is good, but keep in mind that the wire is to be kept in position, not secured to the posts. I want the wire loose in the staple so that air temperature extremes will allow the wire to expand and contract. Otherwise you risk having wood posts break when it gets really cold. I also use coil spring s a few times in the wire lines to help keep the wire tight and also lets it expand.
