Moving to the "country". Have 11.5 acres of very hilly property, covered with scrub oak. Need to remove some of the scrub oak (with tractor), clean barn/corral, keep wild grasses cut to a maximum height of 6 inches on majority of property and maintain 800 ft. driveway (snow removal). Which size tractor and which transmission? Limited loader work and very tight spaces for mowing with the scrub oak present.

Don,

I would start looking at the B series. How big are the scrub oak? I routinely pull small shrubs out with my B7500, and imagine that small trees in general would be about the same.

I have a 4300' driveway that I've been using the B7500 for. That's the only job (so far) that I've wished for a larger tractor. That said, a neighbor has an L35TLB, and we were comparing the jobs he can't do with the TLB that I can, simply because of size.

Stick around here, pick up Muhammad's book, and try to size up the situation for yourself.

Do you have a price range yet?

Don welcome to TBN and do jump right and get some dirt on you...well snow up in these parts. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

You kinda ask a loaded question.
How big is your check book, and are you going to remove the oak stumps w/the FEL or planing to purchase a BH.

The Kubota B-series seems to be your best bet, from the B7500,B2410,B2710,B2910 depending on how much horse power you would like.
If it was me I would go w/the HST instead of the DT,much better when operating FEL etc..

Muhammand got a book out {Compact Tractor Buying & Basics}..top of the page..which will answer a lot of you questions.
Spend sometime at your local dealer and test drive the different models, and let the tractor fit you and you not fit the tractor.

Take your time and enjoy your quest towards your new investment.

Don, you mention your new acerage and the requirements to be able to mow on steep hills, manuver around trees, clean a coral and barn and do light loader work----the tractor that Kubota specifically designed for exactly that use is the BX2200! Before you spend more on bigger you better see what you might miss out on. I would certainly try to demo a BX and perhaps a 7500. I think you will like the BX's lower, wider stance on those hills better (opinion) but before you spend the money try some different units out--at least run them around the parking lot. When I first saw the BX I was headed for the 2410 but my wife stopped at the BX. I laughed at it and said it was to small. I was sitting on the 2410 but the salesman (and new friend) and my wife stayed at the BX. I finally relented and demoed it and my skeptisim melted away. (I had demoed a 7500 some months before from another dealer but it felt so tippy I had decided I wanted the 2400--the BX was not out at that time). He sold us the tractor we needed and he and my wife were correct--it can handle anything I need to do and from your description it could handle your needs too. The BX is a mini bruiser! Good luck with your new place whatever you get. By the way, I can afford anything I want, even a Grande L, the BX was the right tool for the job. J

Price is not a major consideration. I was initially thinking of the L3010. But I was leaning toward the DT transmission because of the scrub oak that needs to be removed. Some of them are 20 feet tall and I don't have a clue what their root systems are like. I also thought the L3010 might move snow more efficiently. Thoughts?

The DT is a fine setup, but if you should get a chance try a HST while operating a FEL from dirt to snow.

Drop a post to Boondox here on the site, for he just purchase a L3010 {and loves it} and been pushing back his snow banks.

Don -- I recently traded up from a B1750 to an L3010. My neighbor is a ski resort, so you can guess how much snow we get here. Clementine (my bota) handles it like a champ. Have to wait till May before the snow melts enough for me to take her out in the meadow or up into the woods, so I can't tell you anything about stability other than the weight of this machine makes it MUCH more steady than the 1750.

Send me mail if you have any specific questions. Good luck!

Pete, bet the snow you get there isnt anything like what we get here in Tahoe, lots and very wet. I too would recommend that one go with at least a 3010 or bigger if dirt moving is in your plans. I can't imagine owning anything smaller unless I want to use it for mid mount mowing on smaller plots of land in which case there are some great compact compacts from Kubota and others. I think the smallest I would get is a L3710 (because it still accepts a mid mount mower). Having a strong loader is a must, you realize this once you use a larger loader and drop down to a smaller one. Other then the upper M series like the M120, an AG tractor, I think of all Kubotas as being quite manuverable and compact. If I need something really small for getting around a house to move dirt, I can't think of anything better then a Bobcat. Rat...

You will find in this web site people love there tractors, including me! Are Kubota's nice tractors? Yes. Are John Deere nice tractors? Yes. Are New Holland nice tractors? Yes. Are the new Case tractors nice? Yes. Get the picture? There a lot of realy nice tractors to choose from, and researching them and talking about them on this web site is a lot of fun (also confusing because we do love our tractors). Please check this web site: www.power-trac.com. I almost bought a Kubota B2410 and changed my mind after reading a web site for commercial landscapers. Glad I did and I saved thousands. Good luck and take your time, this web site is an excellent source of information even though it is mostly Kubota favored.
