What size Brush Hog for my D33

Hi all, I am new to the board. I have found this board to be helpful in all aspects of tractor ownership so far !!
I just bought a Case IH D33 w/ FEL. I am curious as to the size brush hog-shredder I am capable of using with it. My mowing consists of about 14 acres of gently rolling meadow. The Case dealership said 4' is the max... From reading here, that does not sound right. Can I pull a 5 footer without any power problems?

4'??!! A DX33 has the power to run a 5' brush hog through some very nasty brush, and to run a 6' through standard brush (heavy weeds, light saplings). Congrats on your purchase and welcome to TBN.

Yes sir, the largest thing I would be mowing down would be some 1" cedar saplings. Other than that, just 18" tall grass, etc.
I was thinking that a 20-24 HP tractor would pull a 4 footer, so mine should at least pull a 5 footer.

What size brush hog-mowers do others run on your 30-33 HP Diesel 4WD tractors ??

Daniel - I am not that far from you. I run a 6' on my 32 engine/27 PTO hp. Does fine for normal pasture mowing and for some pretty good brush cutting. The only time I have much problem is if I let the bermuda get to high. And some other kind of grass that doesn't grow very tall but is really thick. That stuff will really load it down. But I just gear down and keep the rpm's high. Tall johnson grass and/or weeds is usually not much a problem.

5' easy.. 6' if you don't let the grass get super thick or tall. At least with a 6' it will cover your tire tracks.. and you have the option of taking a 5' bite if the stuff is thick.. IMHO go 6'
