Oh No! You are one of those HAMS! :p

I hated operating the radios in every gig I had in the military. I prefer email, posting like this, or the phone. But Ham radios are pretty darned cool actually.

If I am headed that way, you will definately know it sir! Vice versa, if you ae headed to Richmond or DC, let me know please!

Interestingly enough I was a Dispatcher for a Sheriffs dept. for a while, and when I operated a radio for 10 hours a day professionally, the last thing on earth I wanted to do was talk on my ham radio. Now that I do something else for a living, it is something I really enjoy.:)

James, similarly I have been a electronics/hardware/computer guy for almost 29 years. Long ago (remember the 386 days) I got my first real PC and I played games etc. then in 1991 I actually went to work for Intel and after 10 hours a day in PC world I lost ALL INTEREST in "playing" on my computer.

I see them simply as tools and I only use them because I have to.

Someday I will be a welder, fabricator, and doing something agricultural where I grow & manage growth of something alive kinda guy, and not a computer geek...

I remember building a 386 DX40, up from just parts and thinking how could there ever be a faster more powerful computer than that, Seems like we were still just running DOS in those days, maybe DOS 3.0 .. not sure.. thats been a while. My first computer was a TI 99-4A. Had the P box and all the accessories for it. Of course built up slowly, piece at a time. Finally got my first IBM, used with 8088 and 256K of Ram and a old mono monitor for $2500 , The guy needed to fix the front end of his Porsche, and needed the money. Jeez. computers used to cost a lot of money.!

Mine was a Comodore 64 I used to play Jump Man on in 1983!

Then I got a Compaq "Luggable" the one the size of an airplane overhead compartment with the built in 7" green screen... I needed that so I could run word perfect so I could write my Dungeons and Dragon's articles (published twice in 90 and 92). Paid $500 used I think. Then I built a 386DX25 for under $3000 buying parts at cost from my brother-in-law whos dad owned a radioshack at the time... Then I built a 486 with parts I bought at cost from my employer (Intel at the time)... That was under $1000 because I got a FREE 487 as a benefit...

Long, long ago. I bought this laptop at Costco cheaply a couple years ago. It is about time to throw it away and buy a new disposable one... My motto is just throw them away every 2 years, or as soon as they break...

Be well,

David

Bigger tractor = more fuel, more $$$ for maintenance.

I am a tractor newbie, only just over 100 hours on my first tractor, a Case IH Farmall 55a. The fuel economy (gallons per hour) is much better when operating it at 1500 engine rpms like when using the sickle mower. I want to measure how many gallons per hour it gets when using the sickle mower at 1500 rpms compared with using the brush mower at faster engine speed to get 540 pto rpms. I can use about 10 gallons of fuel per day by working most of the day on it bush hogging.
