Guess on the BX, you can buy the 3 pt weight bucket, rear wheel weights and/or have liquid in your tires.

What do you use and why?

I'd think the rear wheel weights would be a real pain to deal with when you have a flat tire.

Ditto the liquid in the tire/tube. Neighbor has an old John Deere with CaCl2 in the tires. The valve stems are getting very corroded. They need cut out and new ones welded in.

Any problems with the 3 pt weight bucket?

One thing that I found that helps with my Gravely is to have the wife sit on the hood. Gives it more traction going up a steep hill.

For my B7500, each rear tire has 15 gallons of antifreeze mix. In the Summer, the RFM provides plenty of extra weight for heavy lifting, and in Winter the rear blade does the trick. I considered a weight box, but since I don't have problems with space for operation (getting into horse stalls, etc like some people here) an implement does the trick. One less thing to try to keep out of the weather....................chim

There is a non corroding liqiud out there for rear tire ballast but I do not know the name of it. Someone will chim in I am sure to help you out. Some are using wind shield washer fluid and it does work well. I have app. a 600 lb concrete block that I pored for mine. 4 cu ft app. equals about 600 lbs.

Well, since I've eaten too well in the past 40 years, I plop my fat a$$ in the seat and rear traction is not a problem!

As for getting my wife to sit on the hood of my BX2200 for added traction, I'd rather eat nails than even HINT that her body weight could aid in tractor traction.

No thanks, wheel slippage and NOT sleeping with the dog are a very acceptable trade off for me.

Good luck with your traction issue though!

Happy Holiday!

With the BX rear wheel weights and/or have liquid , BX manual says not to have both, one or another. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I use windshield washer fluid.

liquid tire ballast or wheel weights are the best choice because the theory is that the tractor is not holding up the weight.

What other alternatives are there than the two choices mentioned?

Yes, a weight box, poured concrete block for the 3pth, implement on 3pth,Heavy set of chains on rear wheels. when I had the JD 2010 I had a set of bear paw chains that were for a log skidder, just 1 chain weighted over 200 lbs.
