Well with UTV's being all the rage I took the plunge and finanlly bought ATV,,,, As with me 20 years behind the times.

I recently bought a 97 King quad, It is nothing fancy, and was priced at a point I couldnt turn it down.

So as you gathered by now I am a tight ***. We have been getting some signifigant snow falls lately and while I have tractor, skid steer, I dont like getting them out unless we have SNOW like a foot. So I would like to get a blade for the quad. I dont want to spend a mint (remember I am tight) but I dont want to buy junk. I have a winch on the quad and want the plow to have the capability of being angled.

So what blade would you recomend??

Bear Force ATV Plows are very nice and reliable. Easy to attach and take off. I am not sure of the cost.

You can check out mooseatv.com
Also Boss, makes plows for atvs.
You may want to check on Craigslist also..see used ones all the time.

Well you did say you were cheap!

Look for anything used, cheap, in about a 4-5 foot wide range. Should be minimum 6-12" wider than the ATV. Wider and the blade shoves the machine sideways when angled because an atv is light.

Get your local good buddy, welder, to fab some mounts to the front. Attach winch, start plowing.

Key point, the blade pivots on an a-arm that then mounts to two pivots on your ATV, when fabricating or modifying the a-arm mount to fit your ATV be sure the pivot is level with the ground so the blade pivots left/right and remains flat on the ground. If that center pivot bolt is not perpendicular to the ground when plowing, the leading or trailing edge of the blade will be off the ground when you angle the blade. Not what you want.

I change my curtis plow mount and learned the hard way.

A good welder and you can attach any used plow to anything.

Angle adjustment is up to you. Usually manual for Cheap ATV drivers :laughing::laughing:.

Another point: wait until summer time and a used blade will be cheaper.

And on my old TRX450 Honda with moose blade I had a simple piece of rope attached to the angle release that I tugged on then bumped the blade against the snow bank to change angles.

See, me CHEAP and LAZY!!!

American Manufacturing makes the Eagle Plow. I have had a couple of them. They seem to be nice people, their plows work well, are well-designed and durable. They are also priced fairly reasonably. I always try to tell folks to keep in mind the Cost to Operate of the plows in question. Many of the really cheap plows are just that, cheap. They have very low initial cost but either do not fit or work well and break easily. Then they are no longer a very good deal. The Eagle Plow, for example, is reasonably priced and will hold up under harder use with good support for cutting edges, etc. Any cheaper than that I am concerned the plow would not be durable enough to offer a good value. There are other similar examples out there from other companies.

I agree, I put an American Eagle plow on my RTV 500 and it's working great. The plow looks very durable so far.

I have a Cycle Country 52" bear force plow for my atv. For the last 8 years though I wished that I had a wider plow, so I just bought a 66" Cycle Country poly X-force plow. I wish that they made these years ago! It's 21" tall instead of 15.5 like most other plows and weighs about the same as my old 52". I always hated that the plows weren't high enough. We get a lot of snow here in the winters, Some people might think that 66" is too wide for an atv, but for the last 18 years I used my brother's atv with a 60" blade to plow out our cabin in Norther Wisconsin. It snowed constantly there (lake effect snow) never had a problem with that size even in the deepest of snow storms.

vanb, good point. What I have found is that good design and curve overcome width. I have seen 60" plows that a tractor could not handle and 72" plows that an ATV could handle. One common misconception is that plow weight equates to plowing performance. It does not. A snowplow needs to be heavy enough and that's it. Sounds like your example plow is one with a good design and it might be snow-specific, which always helps.

I love my Boss V-plow - very easy on/off - when off there adaptor plate barely changes the look of the machine. It is expensive and very heavy but will last forever

The Boss plow is the nicest, in my opinion. My PowerTach plow (John Deere--made by Brinley-Hardy) is a really heavy plow, too. I do not like it as well as the Boss plow, but it is a little cheaper and has a little better hydraulics. I suppose also the correct plow in part has to do with how much plowing one does. My Powertach blade is already showing signs of significant wear and likely will have to be sanded and painted at the end of the season. I have already reversed my cutting edge and will need a new one by season's end. It still works great, though and no problems with the mounting brackets or hydraulics. A winch operated plow or lighter duty plow would have already given up the ghost on what I plow each year. Though I really liked my Eagle Plow and can highly recommend it, with the amount of snow we have gotten this year I would have probably only gotten one season out of it. Some don't plow that much. I am going to seriously look at a Boss Power V for next year, as I think it is the top plow right now for a UTV (cost independent) with the Meyer and PowerTach being second in a tie. The Eagle Plow in my opinion is the best winch-type reasonably priced plow out there, but it will not last forever in heavy use. Something to keep in mind.

Thanks for the replies
I agree with the comments regarding costs vs quality. I just dont need anythng crazy nice. We will get less than 2 foot of snow for the year. Just looking for somethng good enough to plow a little snow. LOL

I am going to look into the adapting. I have a full shop can cut and weld about anything.

I Gave dad a brand new plow from a yahamma grizzley, I know he hasnt put it on his yamaha, I wonder if I can adapt it to my suzuki? It needed a cutting edge as it was lost before I picked it up.... Wonder if it is worth messing with, appears pop aint gonna mess with it.

There you go, you have your plow, start designing and then fabing.

I have had the Powertach and I now have the Boss plow. There is no comparison. They are not even in the same ballpark.

In what way is the Powertach hydraulics better? They use the cheapest fittings known to man kind, there is no pressure release so the hoses are a PITA to unhook, it is slow and weak for stacking, etc, etc.

You would be nuts to give $3k for the Powertach instead of $3300 for the Boss.

They are nice plows. Check out Rockmountainatv.com. They are eagle plows that have been rebranded with rocky's tusk name. Same plow, same quality, a little better price. I dealt with rocky quite a bit in the past. Pretty happy with their service.

As a bouns the mount plate is two piece with the bottom part being held by bolts in key slots. Takes about two minutes to remove the ears and leave the base plate on. Really helps with ground clearance.

Your machine is heavy enough and with the super low range has plenty of power to push a 60 inch plow.

I have a 54" Cycle Country which is a pretty basic plow. I raise and lower it with a Warn winch. Smaller is better. Less wear and tear on the ATV. Make sure it is wide enough that it will still cover your tracks when angled. The plowing width gets narrower when the blade is angled.

I just bought a 72" eagle plow for my 855D Gator. For the money it is a great plow. It is easy to take off, leaving the mounting plate on the gator. I bought the total set-up - plow, mounting bracket and extension arms for around 600$ I would recommend it for light to moderate snow amounts - we usually get about 2foot a year, though last year and this year have been a lot more. - Mike

GCLL, perhaps mine is not stock. Perhaps mine has upgraded hydraulics. Perhaps mine works better than the one you had. Not a V plow, but not too bad and the price difference was greater than what you mentioned for me.

Wont be any hydraulics on mine LOL I will use the winch to raise and lower it.
