Hello,
I purchased this John Deere Sickle Mower and can't make out the exact model I have. I am posting some pictures of it and the serial plate. It says E039?? (obscured) on the data plate. It is missing the Pittman arm that goes between the flywheel and the blade. It appears to be 60s-70s vintage I think. I am also wondering if anyone can tell me what metal parts hold the arm onto the blade? I have the other end still attached to the flywheel. Finally, does anyone now how to lock the bar into the storage position? I can't seem to figure this out. If anyone knows where I can download a manual for this mower once I determine what it is that would be greatly appreciated also.

Thanks

Maybe close to the 39N ?
Youtube showing one..

Go to jdparts if you feel it is the 39N, and that model no. will give you a parts list.

There is a rod that holds the bar in a vertical position for "storage" or travel mode. Just be aware not to have fingers between the teeth as sometimes the sickle bar can drop down when raising the whole thing up. Was told that when I was 12 yr old.. and didn't learn the hard way. ;)

Thanks beenthere that must be what I have. I guess the illegible part must be a "N"
Did not realize I was missing the rod. Hopefully I can find that and the Pittman arm end that connects to the sickle bar. I wonder why John Deere added the "E0" to the model number?

Thanks

there was a model 39 and also a 39N, I have a pdf of the parts book that has both in it, if you'd like it shoot me your email.
As for the "EO" usually at Deere anything in front of a model number was a factory location code
