My three and half year old daughter. I am a geezer who had a miracle. The first time someone referred to me as "grandpa" while I was out with her, I was shocked... now it makes me smile. She is beautiful, smart, and the perfect antidote to a bad day at the office.

Every day I thank the Lord for another day.
At this point I am just happy to be here in
reasonably good shape. I'm 51 and many of my
peers that made bad decisions are starting to disappear.

It's crazy how fast this thing called life goes by!

Thanks for the replies!

I thought about this for a bit...

God
Family
Friends-old and new (including my new friends at TBN)
Freedom (one of my sons just left for his second tour to Afghanistan) & we just celebrated Independence Day
Education-formal, informal or otherwise, imperfect though it is, we have the opportunity!
Good Health and access to healthcare
Peace
and so much more!

If I wrote the whole list I would be here all day. Here is a few, God, wife that loves me when I am not at my best, or when I am at my best for that matter. Second chances, and that the whole world is not like me, It would be a strange place.

As I celebrated my 60th birthday this past weekend with my mother, sister, wife, four kids and six grandkids, with Aunts, Uncles and cousins in attendance, I was truely thankful and grateful for everything I have and every day I have.

For pretty much everything. I have been very fortunate.

That I no longer have to clean out the chicken house like when I was a kid!!!!

:laughing:I was always quick to volunteer to clean out the chicken house, because that meant I got to use the tractor; a 1940 John Deere L. We had a little trailer I'd hook up and back it up to the chicken house door, load it with chicken manure, go spread it in the garden, then down by the creek and load the trailer with sand, back to the chicken house and spread the sand in the floor and under the roosts.

And as with many of you, I have a great deal to be thankful for, beginning with my wife of more than 48 years.

You look at the positive side of things for sure. I remember the stink of the chicken ****, the hot muggy morning after a summer rain with zero breeze in the chicken house.

So many things..#1 is family, especially when my 2 year old grandson runs through the door yelling pa pa, pa pa, then gives me a big hug...don't get much better than that !!

Yeah, I wouldn't want to do that job anymore, but when you're 12 years old and need an excuse to play with the tractor, you're willing to do a lot of things I wouldn't want to do now.

EVERYTHING God has blessed me and my family with (i.e. loving family, roof over our head, food on our table, the opportunity to help others, etc.)

The breaths of air I sucked in while writing this. The fingers that typed it. The intellect to think it. The wife I can go home tonight and tell about it. The little boy I will be holding in my arms while I am telling my wife about it. The food she will have prepared to eat. The clothes we are wearing while we sit down to eat it. The house the table is in we will sit at, and most of all for that God that made it all and loves us all enough to send his Son to die for us so that we can smile about it all with fond memory forever.

FlaMom for starting this thread that has us all counting our blessings...

My wife "who loves me like Jesus" to quote a popular song, and has/is nursed/ing me through assorted injuries and illnesses... including the current one.

My orthopedic surgeons, one who saved my life and leg from cancer when I was 19 y/o and the other who saved me from the infection in my knee replacement, and will hopefully be putting in another one in a few more weeks....

Which leads to: still having a life and all the limbs necessary to make the best of it...

All the rest of the family, who are also always there for me and each other...

For my dog, who loves me even when I get frustrated with her lack of understanding English...

Our log house in the woods by the pond, where every day feels like a cabin at summer camp... (unfortunately some times I have to be a counselor or the maintenance guy :) )...

Having a steady job, in a career I chose, helping people, even when it's not the help they think they need...

Living in a country (if not a state) that is still free, with the liberty to say what I think, do what pleases me, own what I like (mostly), and protect my home and loved ones there....

ALL the other blessings I have from GOD, especially those that I take for granted all too often....

How you doing with your new move? What motivated you to move to CA?
BTW thanks for good wishes. And I was REALLY grateful to park it at our place in California. Geez. We had a change of retirement plans, in California we are closer to family on all sides. Miss Virginia though! Best wishes in Florida.

Being the first one to plunge a knife into a new jar of peanut butter or a new jar of mayo.
