DFB, I don't know whether you simply had a filter that was too small in diameter for the wrench, or . . .. If the 3 legged, spider, 3 jaw, (or whatever you want to call it) wrench has a drawback, it's that frequently two hands are needed to get it started. Since those 3 jaws swing pretty freely, you have to hold them snug against the filter until you start to turn the wrench handle to put pressure on them for them to get a hold on the filter.

Bird, the size of filter still was within the advertised range. I think it must be that its too close to the limits of the wrench. When it reaches the end of the travel it stops getting tighter. Then the wrench would just slip around on the filter instead of turning the filter itself. I even experimented with it on the filter it after it was off the tractor. Just kept slippin' around it. Other than that it worked OK /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif on the larger sized filters.

Bird .... that's what I usually use too ... but I had trouble using it on .... of all things .... my L3710 .... not enough room to get it on in the right position for it to tighten properly. And you're certainly right ... you usually need to be in a position to use both hands otherwise it's frustration city!
