I've got a couple acres of grown up brush i'd like to be able to mow.

How big of a brush hog can my B7100 handle? I'm seeing tons of 5 footers available, would those work okay?

I've got ground engaging equipment (though i've never used it), would the B7100 be able to cut the ground up with all the brush there or would i need to mow it first, then plow/dig/cut prior to planting something? i'd like to plant some kind of wildlife attracting stuff.

Or is there a good resource for learning how to plant a small plot with a tractor?

Although I can not comment directly on this subject i can give you some of my experince

I was mowing the property i have now wheni first got my tractor after my house fire. The "lawn" at that time was around 41/2 to5 feet tall. I have a 60" mid mower had had to go Realy slow to chop it all down.

I would think from that experence a 4 foot wood do best in your situation depending on the hieght of materail u are cuttting and type also.

being a former Machinist i can say it is all about feed and speeds
the larger the aout you take in one pass the slower you have to go.

As for the ground engaging eq i have no experence except fot my 6' back blade. I do not have any problems pulling it full of dirt

The manual lists a 5' finish mower and a 4' "rotary cutter", i.e., bushhog. If also lists a 4' box blade. I've run a 5' box blade just fine with my B7100. As robbieo11 stated, a 5' bushhog is probably fine, you'll just need to go a little slower.

A friend of mine runs 5' bush hog with a Ford 8N, which is 23 HP (compared to our 16 HP).

I run a 48" rotary cutter on my 7100DT and it works well unless the grass is really tall/thick. I would think a 60" is really pushing it. Doesn't the HST have a little less HP on the PTO than the gear? Advantage is that you can slow way down without having to clutch.

As for the foodplot question, I do not make them so am not an expert. I would think you would want to mow first or all the stuff would get caught up in the disk or whatever you use. Likely a disk or tiller are the choices and a notched disk is supposed to be better at chopping up the 'trash' than a smooth disk. Lots of posts on here about foodplots.

okay thanks, i'll have some steep grades to climb with it too so i'll hope to find a 48" but the 60" jokers are everywhere for cheap. if i don't see a good deal on a 48" i'll go with a 60".

Well, I own a B7100 with a 4' rotary cutter, and I will totally agree that 4' is the way to go. If the grass is tall or thick, I have to slow down or take a smaller bite with my 4'. A 5' rotary is definitely too big for a B7100.
