Just brought this home as a "teach the kids about old mechanical things" and now I'm not sure what exactly this is. The tractor looks like an original Broadmoor, but has an 8hp Briggs. (Model 19707, Type 0132-01, Code 6910161) Don't have it running yet as the fuel petcock is broken off in the closed position. However, I got it to fire by shooting carb cleaner in the cylinder via the sparkplug hole. My question is, do you think this is the original engine?

Also, this looks like it used to have electric start some time. However, it's a pull start now (doesn't bother me as its for "fun"). However, it looks like the hood was made for a pull rope. I found two model #s ( 990287 and 990288) referencing standard and deluxe, but the serial number is worn off.

Any help/info on this is greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone has any ideas of the value of this, I'm all ears as I don't want to have the kids learning on something which might have some value and we end up goofing it up.:D

PS - I have the grill, just had to remove it to get to the spark plug.

Thanks. We cleaned it up a bit and determined it was an electic start and doesn't have the original motor. The deck is in great shape. We had to patch a hole in the gas tank as there was a little one from where the strap meets the tank. The kids learned alot of lessons in patience thus far. The carb is in need of a cleaning big time. Things turned colder before we could get that done. Hoping for an early dry spring to get back to this project.

Glad to hear your working on it that is a terrific project to involve kids in and a simplicity will last for a good many years not to mention they have the nicest looking cut of any mower out there

It is a 1964 through 1967 model -- that's as close as I can get without more info. Look for an ID label on the tractor that has a MFR number on it. That will allow you to pinpoint the age, since someone may have repainted the hood and removed the model number decal. Once you have the MFR number, you can download the manuals for it for free.

You may want to check out this link for a LOT more info about these old machines. There's about 1500 pages of info there, so it can be a bit tricky to navigate using the menus on the top left...

Market value in good condition, is likely $100 - $350 or so -- so you're not risking your kids tearing up a rare collectible...

I have got one just like this sitting under my shed. I have been thinking about fixing it up too. It was bought new by my wife's Grandfather in 1968. They still had the orginal owners manual. My engine is original but smokes real bad. The electric start still works. I would like to find some original type hube caps for it. They are built solid aren't they. I am glad you posted your up. I will try to remember get some pic's of mine tomorrow. Cool project. Gets them off the computer for a while.

The hubcaps are still available through dealers, the last I knew...
