John, No offense taken. I even agree with you - I have done a lot of foolish things over the years.
As for giving thanks I do that on a daily basis and twice on Sunday. I will be disconnecting the pto shaft from now on but I can't thank of any way to better support it to make sure it doesn't fall than the chain around the tree trick. I have let it down with the chain holding it and the front goes down some but not that much. The back end is held tight by a BIG chain that I keep on my tractor.
I've got some cutover land that has a lot of old barbed wire fences on it. No matter how careful I am I get into it sometimes. One time I got such a wad of it wrapped around it I had to go all the way home (3 miles) and cut it off with a torch. Most of the time it takes a couple of minutes with some good pliers, more than enough time to get killed I know.
I just don't know any safer way to do it reasonably. I guess I could unhook it and use the chain to turn it bottom side up to work on it. That would be plenty safe and make it much easier to get to. It just seems like overkill and a lot of extra work. I can't count the times I have been under one with the engine running and nothing under it.
THANK YOU LORD FOR WATCHING OVER ME.
