LK 30. What is thing? I can't find any thing in my manual as to what it is. I found one picture in the shop manual that called it an oil fill. I always add oil thru the valve cover. Never noticed this before because it is painted all grey. Is it really a fill for the crankcase?

That does look like the oil fill to me. I was told to never fill thru the valve cover.

It all goes to the same place. Can't think of a reason why you can not.

This is where you are supposed to pour you engine oil into the crankcase. Pouring it into the valve cover has caused some hydrolocking problems if the oil is poured in too fast. So I have heard. I can't prove it. On my DK35se engine is a similar port near the fuel injector, I have always put in the engine oil into this port. NOT the valve cover.

On my DK 35, I have a fill plug on side and one on top. Lots of discussion about this over the years. Theory why not to use top fill is that there are baffles that slow the oil draining into the crankcase, oil can then back up into the vent hose and other places if allowed to continue.
