We have been plagued with these bugs hatching out every winter for 20+ years now. I don't know where they come from and once it gets warm, they are no longer found in the house. If you squash it, it stinks as bad as a skunk. I usually just pick them up and throw them into the toilet and flush. Have never seen one that could swim... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Junkman-
We have those here in Eastern Washington, also. IMHO they are not the above referenced "stink bugs" but are called a "pine beetle" because that pungent aroma smells like pine from a distance, and that's where they live the rest of the year when not invading our homes and garages in the fall and spring. My two Weimaraners enjoy eating them--kind of like doggie breath mints...Regards, Mike

I don't think it's that one, either. To be more technical, I believe it's the Western Conifer Seed Bug or Leptoglossus Occidentalis. Regards, Mike

You guys are all wrong they are Kubota attachment bugs. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Junkman must have gotten them from one of those many slightly used but in perfect condition Kubota attachments he has picked up in the Northeast at next to nothing$. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif You know snowblower, sweeper, grass catcher, etc.etc. etc. And you thought you were getting a great deal. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif, they did not tell you about those smelly bugs. :grin A warning to all, avoid those used bug attachments. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Junkman,

Looks kind of like a boxelder bug?
We use to have an old mill that was loaded with them.
Do they have an orange or red color on their backs at any time?
Do a google search for boxelder and see if you think it matches.

Chris

We have these box elder Bugs at my house every fall and then again in the spring. I hate them /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif There every where. I just glad I'm not the only one with them. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Every bug that my kids have ever brought to me that I could not identify, I told them it was a stink bug. They have never picked up on it or wondered why there are so many different kinds of stink bugs. They just drop them and run away. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

We have tons of them here in No. Idaho and we call them Stick Bugs & also Box Elders. They get into everything and are an irritation.
