59" Snow Blower Connection Question??

Hi,

Can someone tell me if all I need to connect my 4310 driveshaft coupler to the gear box on my 59" snow blower is a single cap bolt or hex bolt? I was told I need a key??? Where would a "key" be used or fit in this application? My photo shows the cap screw as mentioned in the manual by the red arrow. What grade cap screw/bolt should this be? Could a sheer bolt/pin be used, but in my case, they break too easily.

JD parts shows a key for the input shaft of the snow blower, P/N M84550 which is a 1/4" square x .992 long key. I would check and see if the input shaft is machined for a key. It's possible at some point the key was eliminated and that machining step removed to save money. If your input shaft is machined for a key, I would use one.

The bolt is 5/16-18 x2" Grade 5.

The P/N you referenced, M84552 is listed as 1.366" long. Where did you get that P/N? JD parts list P/N M84550 for the 59" snow blower.
