I wonder who crapped their pants first - the operator or the camera man. If that had been my crawler tractor - the op would have NOT forgotten the beat down he received.

If you don't have a grapple, it will become a most used tool.

It can clean up the mess created by a tree puller

Flat land, recommend the grapple. Slopes the puller may be the better tool.

Assuming you have a loader I would just try pushing them up with the loader bucket. I don't have toofies or any of that stuff on either of my loaders and I can push up brush, shrubs, and small trees just fine with them.

Curl the bucket just slightly forward of level and drive in with 4WD Low.

Thank you for all the replies! I especially enjoyed the entertainment video :)
Well, where to start. . . I had never seen a ratchet rake before that's a possibility and I probably could find other uses for it.
Burning - around here 2 things will happen if I try an open burn. 1st the vol fire dept will show up in force as if the town is burning down. When they are through that's when I'll get a citation :(
The tree puller looks cool - not enough use to justify one, unless it makes coffee too.
The root grapple was my original thought as I can use it for several different projects in mind (mostly in the woods). Just need some arm twisting to swallow the cost.
I hadn't really thought of just trying to rip them out with the bucket. That's worth a shot TractorGuy.
Finally my son & I were talking about it and he suggested a chain connected to my bucket hook to pull them out.
As far as eliminating the forest rats (deer) . . . I have several video cameras in the woods and they (a small herd of about 12) are daily visitors, usually in groups of 2-4.

I do have a friend whom is into bow hunting (legal in CT year round on private property). He has offered on several occasions but my wife would kill me 1st.

Since the last two I can try without buying anything else, I'll give them both a try. I do have a wicked tooth bar on order so its hard to justify a ratchet rake. If the bucket alone or with the chain don't work I'll wait for the tooth bar. After that its probably grapple time.

A chain with a slip hook does wonders pulling random stuff out of the ground and just pulling things in general... I have a ~15' chain I keep handy for that stuff, between hooking random stuff to the bucket and having it tension itself around stuff, I've pulled everything from trees to scotch broom to over 30 grape plants to a 10,000lb boom truck with that chain and my tractor...

This! And if you don't have a slip hook, wrap the chain one full loop around whatever you are pulling then hook it back to itself. As you pull, the chain will keep getting tighter.

Today's update. . . As I'm working from home its easy to take a 30 minute break & play with the tractor. I just tried the chain method. It works, sort of. The problem is the branches are dead so they just break off leaving the roots :(
The other issue is moving the debris. They are twisty branches and difficult to get them to stay in the bucket. I can't carry too many.

I really need a ground engaging tool to rip everything out. I'm hoping the tooth bar will be enough.

For small trees I have used a brush grubber. Works best with one person attaching/detaching grubber and one on the tractor. Cost about $75.
