I passed a string of cars in my '98 Sierra years ago which I shouldn't have. It was Saturday morning, I had been gone all week and if I didn't get home before the PO closed it would be another week before I could get there.
That truck would hit 100 at the drop of a hat. I went by about 1/2 dozen cars, pulled in and had just gotten slowed down when I met a deputy sheriff.

That would have been a "go directly to jail, do not pass GO" offense.

I've never had a problem doing this, but given the offender is often elderly and I have a few vehicles with relatively loud exhaust, I do sometimes worry the loud car flashing by at double-speed will frighten them out of their slumber and right into the ditch. :D
My record is five tightly packed cars. Was out of patience by the time we got to a reasonably straight section of road.

And I have also wondered about the sound effects when passing. The Challenger is LOUD when getting on it. When passing horse trailers I always let off when going by them.

When passing a string I'm worried one of the cars I'm passing will pull out to pass with out checking his rear.
The other concern is the lead car was going slow because he planned to turn and there he is turning left just before I get there.

I've had some close calls like that. Try to do a Marty Feldman and look ahead for opposing traffic while also keeping an eye on the next car I'm about to go past.

That's where the loud exhaust comes in handy...but that doesn't work with the 3500 or the other cars.

I assume your car also has the active exhaust? Can't remember which years and configurations got that.

My Charger has it, and it barks like a race car when those exhaust valves open wide. Always fun on a cold morning, as that's about the only time you get to hear them opened to max dilation when hitting the remote start. :devilish:

Anyway, when you get on it, I believe those ports gradually open as the engine spools up. The idea is to restrict the exhaust and maintain back-pressure at lower RPM's to hold closer to peak torque, and then open as the RPM's climb, to peak the horsepower as much as possible. This is why the car sounds relatively tame at low RPM's, but can still scream when you get on it and drop a gear.

Yes, it has the active setup, but for whatever reason my '18 is much louder than my girlfriend's '19. She doesn't like that.

Not that her's is quiet by any means. I've been behind her when she was passing cars.

I seldom ever get to pass someone. It seams as if everyone is driving 7mph faster than me.

This happened close to 50 years ago.
I dropped my mother off at her friends place and headed for home.
Driving a Sierra Grande 3/4 ton 350 4 barrel.
Door to door it should have been aboot 1 hr, 3/4 on the highway.
When I was leaving Ma said to call her when I got home so she knew I was OK.
Got on the highway and got mixed up with 3 other vehicles speeding.
We were doing 100mph+.
Not far from my exit a station wagon pulled in front of me.
I don't know if he did it because there was a radar cop under the next overpass and he saved me a major ticket or he just didn't see me.
That scrubbed off some major brake lining.
The cop never did go after the other guys. Like what could he do?
I got home in just under 30 minutes.
You should have heard Ma on the other end. She knew I was home because she could hear the dogs barking in the background.
I think I got aboot 5mpg that trip, almost 3/4 tank.

I use cruise when passing through our rural towns. Notorious speed traps. A local cop at each of the 45 to 35 mph slow-down areas.

As a teen I was pulled over by a state trooper on a Sunday afternoon doing 96 mph. He took my license and just said “Follow me”. Huh? 🤔
I got really nervous when he turned into the county jail. I was able to call an older friend to come sign a property bond. 😰

I like to use cruise on my 12 hour drive to Olympia and not worry about tickets along the way.

I also used it driving the Oregon Coast as I had been warned… didn’t even know I could use it at 25 mph.

Sure enough encountered several cruisers lying in wait… one officer even had a grin as I passed spot on the posted speed…
