I knew a guy with a landscaping business.
I let him dump soil, grass clippings, brush timings...
Took me time and fuel to spread this stuff out or burn.
Not to mention the garbage that invariably was often mixed in.
Stuff like wrappers, coffee cups etc.
One day a couple of his workers came through at speed after a heavy rain, cutting deep ruts and splashed my soon to be picked apples with mud.
I blocked that driveway to stop them and have a word.
He called and asked if that was meant for them. When I said yes he hung up and never spoke to me again.
Didn't want to hear why.
I wasn't cutting him off I just wanted to have a word about the mess.
Since then I hear he calls me that a-shole and worse.
This after saving him a small fortune in dumping fees and extra time it takes his guys to go to the dump.
I thought I was doing a good deed helping a guy with a new business.
I just feel duped. Never again.

Made it perfectly clear to my neighbors, I will NOT loan out my tractor, none of them have one. I will come over and move dirt/rock, till a garden, drill a hole etc. on my time for a few beers.
Neighbor's tractor was out of commission and he had to spray his orchard.
One time only he said.
Mine barely had 100 hrs. I told him that because it was a turbo he had to let it idle for a minute or two before shutting it down after heavy work.
Lets the turbo cool down and let it come down to idle speed protecting it from oil starvation at shut down.
I saw him shut it down while still rolling pulling in to his barn yard for refills of the sprayer. He could have let idle the 10-15 minutes it took to refill the sprayer tank.
He wanted to borrow it again.
NO! My toy, my rules.
Now I'm the weird neighbor down the road.

No good deed goes unpunished..... change my mind.
Yet I still help people, but will not loan any tool or money. Might give or buy something but loan never.

I loaned a 2-man post hole digger to a guy about 3 years ago. He still has it, I think. He may have loaned to someone else for all I know. He did repair it when he "borrowed" it. He has a better place to store it than I do. I might get it back someday.

Having to visit the Doc's office monthly, I get aggrivated in having to fill out the same 3-page info form each time. I'm not sure if it's just a test on my integrity or a test of my writing skills.
I solved that aggrivation by bringing a blank one home, filling it out, sans putting in the date, and photocopying a batch. Now I simply take a copy with me to the Doc's office. When they hand me the clipboard to fill out that 20 minute questionaire, I hand them back a completed photocopy form.
That has worked out SO WELL... I'm wondering if that system will work if I simpy photocopy a batch of $20 bills to cover their charges? hmmmm - I' not sure i shoud try that out :)
I just have fun with those:

>Emergency contact? 911
>Sexual performance? I don't understand the question. It's something I remember doing many years ago and I enjoyed it. It was like checkers only I and my female opponent were naked. I usually won but sometimes let my opponent beat me.
>Any pains? Telemarketers. They drive us crazy.
>Nausea? Yes. Those cheap hot dogs and the tilt-o-whirl at the carnival do it every time
>Confusion? Noooo...except I did drive to Vegas once. My wife sent me out to get a few groceries. I had a great time though.
Etc. I just ad lib every time and I always hear the office ladies laughing.

Might give .... but loan never.
Great advice. After being burned trying to help others, if I can't give them the money they want or need, I don't do it at all. No loans ever. Loans have "strings" that are problematic even in the best circumstances if a loan is repaid. A path I no longer want to go down.

Even giving money can trigger issues, but not as often. I once gave a family member $20k to get them over the hump of a difficult problem. Years later, totally out of left field, they visited and surprisingly handed me $20k repayment. I said it was not necessary- it was a gift, always a gift, and we all knew that. They said: "ya but ever since then you have acted different toward us." Their minds and impressions were "colored" to see something that wasn't there. I said "thank you" because it would have been rude to refuse what they had surprised me with.

That reminds me of several times that I had to take my father to the ER for one matter of another, mostly heart problems. After about the 3rd time of them asking me the same questions I had answered before, historical questions that were going have the same answer as before, I go a little testy with the nurse/tech/doctor, and said why are you asking the same questions every time we're here and putting them into the computer? Isn't that the reason it's put into the computer, so you have that data? Answer was always we need to know if anything has changed. To which I replied, well then wouldn't it be easier to just ask if anything has changed, like medication, or symptoms, than 30 unrelated questions that are going to have the same answer as the last 6 times we were here, and speed up the treatment of my father? To which the answer was that's our procedure.
I said well your procedure is irritating, inefficient and counterproductive.
All I got was a shrug, usually.

Long construction times for simple projects, when its a gov. project.

===============

Reconstruction of the intersection is scheduled to begin in late August and is expected to take approximately two years to complete

VANCOUVER – Clark County Public Works is reconstructing the intersection of Northeast 179th Street and Northeast 29th Avenue. The existing single-lane, all-way stop-sign-controlled intersection will be replaced with a roundabout.

Why can't it be done in a month?

Dentist office is SO WORRIED about this or that virus that they are gowned up as if to be working in a lab, masks, goggles, four pairs of gloves, face shields, covers over all the equipment, on and on....

Then, when the patient walks in, they hand you an Ipad that 4000 other people have touched for you to fill out your medical history. 🙄

They put in a roundabout about four miles from me. It involved cutting back a hill, moving a lot of utilities and putting in a two tiered retaining wall. They got it done in six months.
