As a supervisor, I would never accept an employe telling me 'that's not my job', assuming the task was not illegal. "My Job" is normally performing tasks that needed to get done, not necessarily only the jobs that I want to do.
I'm not just trying to offend you and your ideals, but I assure you, your name would be at the top of my cut list, should that need come up.
The only time I heard this is in a Union Shop and I actually got in trouble working outside my classification.

Steward said politely refuse… but it goes against my nature.

Maybe that's a poor choice of words on his part. Yet cleaning out ash trays in particular is a nasty thing to ask someone to do who didn't make the mess.

There were no ashtrays, they threw everything on the floor, food scraps, cigarettes, chew spit, everything. Dirty pigs. And, the foreman was coming in late and leaving early and drinking on the job.

I can over look some things but you treat me like crap and try to bully me by telling me your going to talk to the superintendent if I don’t do what you want, I will talk to him also and let him know how you are doing.

I got into the union late, I wasn’t a kid apprentice, I was older than many of my foremen, some could push around the kid apprentices, some enough to make them quit but it didn’t work on me.

A new one for me... requiring an "APP" to do business. I just reserved a Uhaul via phone. The only way that I can review my order is to download their "app." To do that I would first need to create a Google account.
They took my money, the truck better be there when I go to pick it up.

And if it's not, they probably have a 20footer that just happens to be there, when you ordered a 12ft. 6mpg gas is on you, thousands in gas to get across the country. Oh but we'll give you a $100 rebate on rental.

Maybe, I reserved one and it was not there… it was not returned so it was not there for me.

I find my trailers can do just about anything a u-haul can do.

People that have trailers usually don’t rent U-Haul trailers, though unless you want a one-way trailer to take across a couple states and not bring it back

lol... you just reminded me of the last time I rented a truck. It wasn't U-Haul, I think it was Ryder, but I had reserved the smallest dock-height truck they had available with a lift gate. I was moving just one 2200-pound object from a location with a loading dock, to my own garage... four states away.

When I went to pick up the truck, of course it wasn't there. The only thing available with the required lift gate was the largest truck in their fleet, which could be rented without a CDL. I don't remember the size (huge), but I do remember the 16 or 17 hour round trip, as I did it all in one shot... just an hour after hopping off a cross-country flight.

Gas was cheap back then, so I didn't mind that factor so much. But the truck was too lightly loaded with the one object I was moving, and the wheelbase was just the right length to set up a perfect oscillation on the highways from here up thru New England. So, it was several straight hours of a bucking bronco ride, to the point where the only thing keeping me in my seat was my seatbelt, at times. The bouncing definitely increased fatigue, on that too-long day.

We went from Great Falls to Wisconsin, 20ft plus car dolly and Mercury Sable. One fuel stop a guy was pulling the largest sailboat I ever saw being towed, and of course got better milage. There was a vacuum gauge for optimal milage that was fun to make fun of - spent its life pegged in the red unless going downhill with a stiff tailwind.

Ever try to rent a tool at HD? Some sort of "security" BS...they send a text message with a link to a ap that you must install in order to prove you are who you say you are or something like that.
Last fall I needed to rent a stump chipper, called & verified they had one available. Got there and the clerk said he'd forgotten to mention this little detail. I don't own one. Had to call the wife and have her come down so I could do this. An hour+ wasted. I don't think she had to create an account, since they told me next time we'd have to go thru the whole routine again.

Asked them how many stump chippers they'd had stolen. He said none, but it was corporate policy. Guess who I'm NOT renting from in the future?
