What is a "Cold Start" ?

We just bought a brand new 2007 Honda Foreman. It is hard to start and is hard to keep running during the first 5 minutes of operation at low RPM's. My dealer told me they do that because they have what is called a cold start. What does that mean exactly and why in the world would they make an engine like this with today's technology. Seems like an old idea. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

I have a 2000 foreman and it is a bit cold blooded too. Have you looked for the choke? Mines right in the centre below the digital display. Mine wont start and stay running without choke until warm.

I run Honda Rubicons, and they act the same way. A operator HAS to use the choke until it starts warming up. After that, they are strong and runs like dream....
I've notice threw the years, some of the best engines are just that way !!!

yup the engine on my hpx is like that. but i tell you that kawasaki engine is tough it can take a beating . i'm up to 700+ hours and not one puff of smoke out the exhaust yet i never adjusted the valves niether.

I believe that there is an electric carb heater on that model. Check and see if it is working. Some of Honda's engine have a cold start injector that squirts a bit of fuel in the intake system. Check your manual.
