What have you done with/to your GC Series 2300, 2400, 1700 Tractor TODAY

I'm impressed that battery has a 1/25 date sticker on it.

Assuming that's not a running joke to put those on all of them.

Now that I see they are all pretty much $200, I consider this a leading candidate for my next replacement.

Well it's still pretty new, but judging by the way my tractor now starts (like almost immediately -- like Ray's!), it would seem I probably should have replaced my battery...oh, about ten years ago....

Have been getting some more snow in the last few days, about 18" and have plowed 2 times.

Last night plowing with temperatures about -2F the GC started to modulate RPMs and did die a couple times.

Limped it into the garage and my hands were to cold to look into the reason, but did top off the anti freeze since the reservoir container was empty.

In the past I have cleared snow in -40 weather and had no issues like this.

I have never had fuel freeze up ever, as I also use generous amounts of Power Service in the white bottle.

Glanced at the fuel filter and it looked clear, but last replacement of fuel filter was in 2019 at 622 hours.

Tractor now has over 800 hours, so today I'm going to replace the fuel filter if it warms up a bit.

I'll also looked at the air filter, which I clean every year, but it also was replaced in 2019.

Guess I'll pick up a new air filter also.

I have never had bad fuel in the past, but my question to those of knowledge, would a bottle of diesel 911 hurt if I added it to a 3/4 full tank.

I'm open to suggestions to solve my issue, and here are a couple of pictures from this morning.

Well, it's a sad day in NH.... I think, after 17 years and 1210 hours.... I might be looking at a new battery. Seems that after glow plug operation, there just isn't enough left to crank. Had a heck of a time over the past 3 days getting it started. Will check that out later today when it's...

I had 3, 5 gal cans plus my fuel tank clouding with wax. I put 1/4 bottle of 911 in each and that cleared up the fuel. After is was clear I added a second dose of the white bottle to each to prevent future gelling. I later emailed PowerService because I added twice the recommended amount and they assured me that I would be okay running this diesel and I have not seen any issue.

Yes I have always used a double dose of Power Service, in the winter, #1 blend, and also summer, #2.

I also don't think it's bad fuel as this was the 2nd can from the last fill up that I dump in the other day.

I can't remember back when I changed the fuel filter out, but I think it may of been doing this same thing.

Boy, you guys are rough!

About my new battery: Yesterday I fired up the LRB -- had a small bit of snow & ice to clear off and decided to try an experiment with my new battery.

With NO help from the block heater; temp had been down to +2.7F overnight but was then up to +10F, and the tractor hadn't been started for 24 hours.

It didn't particularly like it, but it started!! First hit with the GP for 30 sec, bit of a wait and a second application of GP for 45 seconds, then cranked. Didn't start then, but it did at least fire! Repeated, and then it started. Quite rough initially, but calmed down after about one minute. Not bad!

Wow. Guess I really should have replaced that battery LONG before I did. Let this be a lesson to others: my old battery was apparently weak a long time before I ditched it -- yeah, it still worked (with quite a bit of help when it was cold)... but not like my new one!

Incomplete combustion after 30 seconds of glow plugs.....maybe a little. Incomplete combustion after another 45 seconds?

I think you are ready for some glow plug maintenance.

You could try removing one, or two, and see if they need cleaning. If they are coated with carbon, they don't work well.
