Well, I haven't replaced it yet -- it still has a bit of life left in it. After a few "REPAIR" sessions with my NOCO Genius 10 charger, it has actually come up a fair bit -- from 36% to 51% according to an electronic tester. Not great, but hopefully enough to be able to start the tractor, with some help.

I have begun, however, to look at replacements.

Looks to me like the closest thing to Delkor's Pb-Ca alloy and its toughness would be an AGM battery: good lifespan, totally sealed, good vibration resistance. Just a matter of which brand, but I'll admit I'm leaning toward Deka (made by East Penn, I believe), the same brand as the wicked expensive batteries in my RV. Made in the US, presumably not made of "Chinesium." Unfortunately also not inexpensive, but hopefully worth it.

I'm sure it's a great battery.

But, when you consider that you can potentially buy two, for the price, I have trouble justifying the expense.

If I had an ambulance, or some other kind of application where it's critical, I could maybe see it.

Well, that may be the problem... where I live, with its weather (and my steep driveway), I guess I do consider my tractor to be "critical" -- certainly in the winter with snow removal, but for many other tasks as well. But that's a good point; those AGMs from Deka (and other brands, probably made by Deka/East Penn) are quite expensive, but that's what I'll go with. I'll let you all know how it goes.

If my tractor doesn't start in the winter, it's still in the shop. So, I can put a boost charger on it, and go.

I plow, so there's no reason to turn it off before I finish. And, if I did, there is probably going to be enough of a surface charge to start it, once it's been running.

In the summer, jumping it with one of my mowers would be easy.

So, I can deal with it.

Glad you are willing to take one for the team. It will be interesting information.

For those who haven't noticed, you can often save a decent amount of money, (like $20 or more on a battery), buying it on line before going to pick it up.

I have done this with NAPA, and other auto parts stores.
