Oil & Fuel What happened, why, & how big a job to fix?

I changed the hyd. filter on my BX2200 Kubota and when I removed the old filter a spring & a ball dropped out of the filter hole. I'm not a mechanic but I know that is not right. Hope someone knows what happened, why & how big a job to fix. Thanks in advance.

I have a BX2200 and have done maint on a couple of others. Starting with a 1939 Ford in 1960 I have changed oil in a lot of things (including my BX2200, a couple of B2150's, etc.) but I have yet to see a ball and spring fall out. I'd be reaching for the tranquilizer if I did ! I sure hope these other guys know what they are talking about. Experience counts.

To be that, and to find it there, it must be involved in pressure relief, fluid bypass, or prevent backflow/back pressure upstream from the filter. If you can't find a manual give Kubota a call for advice--I wouldn't run it until you figure it out.

Thanks for your reply. Thanks to daves1708 I received a link to a parts diagram & under control valve component parts it looks like my ball & spring are 050 & 060 in this diagram. I may have been wrong in thinking it came out of the hyd. filter hole as the drain plug was also off & the ball & spring where found in the drain pan. Could it find it's way there if it came loose & why would it come loose? You people on this list are #1, thanks!
